Dietetics
Since human nutrition and food service are the major
concerns of most graduates of this program, they should
enjoy working both with food and people. They should
also have an aptitude for chemistry and the biological
sciences. Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics graduates are
employed by hospitals, nursing homes and extended care
facilities, day-care centers, colleges, universities, public
schools, and commercial food services. They also find
career opportunities in the food science field and in
product development and testing, in community nutrition
programs, and in research. This General Dietetics program
(Plan IV) is currently granted approval status by the
American Dietetics Association Council on Education
Division of Education Accreditation/Approval, a
specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on
Postsecondary Accreditation and the United States
Department of Education.
The student who plans to become a dietitian must
complete a dietetic internship or an approved program
with supervised experience before being eligible to take the
examination to become a Registered Dietitian.
Graduate degrees are desirable for advancement in many
areas of the this field. Employment opportunities are good.
