DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
THE PURPOSE
If the boys and girls of today are to become loyal worthwhile Christian
citizens of our beloved country they must be properly educated. They cannot
be properly educated unless there is a sufficient number of well qualified
Christian teachers. It is the purpose of the Department of Education of
Abilene Christian College to assist in meeting the demand for academically
and professionally trained Christian teachers. Since this is a Christian nation
we believe every individual who wishes to teach in the public schools of the
United States should accept and practice the essential principles of the
Christian religion,
ORGANIZATION
The courses in Education are arranged in the three following divisions:
Elementary Education, Secondary Education, General Education.
There are also special methods courses and courses in Educational Psychology
listed under other departments.
REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS' CERTIFICATES
1. In order to secure the four-year elementary or the two year high
school certificate at the end of the freshman year, the student should do
Education 300, 310, and 314.
2. Students expecting to apply for the four-ycar high school certificate
at the end of the sophomore year should elect Education 320, 321, and 335,
in addition to 300, 310, and 314 above.
3. Those desiring the six-year high school certificate at the end of the
junior vy ..r. or the permanent state certificate at the end of the senior year
must do E lucation 391, 392, and 393.
4. Those who take Education as their major subject must elect the
following cilrses: Those mentioned in Nos. 1, 2, and 3 above, and Education
333, 360, 385, and 386. In addition to the required work it is recommended
that the student elect Education 350, 370, and 371.
It is not desirable that students elect Education as a major subject
unless they expect to lILke a higher degree with some phase of Education
as a major. Students who elect Education as major are expected to select
a first and second minor-subjects that they prefer to teach il high schooland
do extensive studying in these fields.
