course without having to purchase them outright. This special library service
will make our courses cost you less.than those of any other standard institup
lion.
The rental fee ranges from $ .50 to $2.00 for each volume. Please indicate
on the application blank whether you desire to rent books or to purchase
them.
A supply of special grade light weight paper is furnished with each
course. If the student needs an additional supply it may be purchased from
the Extension Office at the rate of forty cents per hundred sheets. It is
more economical than the common type of theme paper generally used.
REOUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS
The Committee on Classified and Accredited High Schools in Texas
adopted the following recommendation on June 23, 1933:
"Beginning with the session 1934-35, standard four-year high schools, ii
addition to meeting fully the requirements heretofore set up for a four-year
high school of ithe first class, shall, in filling vacancies and new positions,
employ only teachers in their entire schools, including elementary schools;
junior schools, and senior high schools, who have had a successful classroom
experience or professional training, and who are graduates of universities,
colleges, or state teachers' colleges, with classroom assignment in their re,
spective field of preparation, and whose principal and superintendent shall
hold at least the baccalaureate degree from a reputable standard college or
university, and shall have successfully completed at least eighteen semester
hours in the field of educational administration. These increased requirements
shall however, not apply to teachers or administrative employees so
long as they remain in the present system of schools, where they have served
satisfactorily for a period of five or more years."
The State Board of Education of Texas adopted the following ruling in its
meeting on September 5-6:
"Teachers employed in state aid schools shall be required to have a minimum
of two years of college training or the equivalent thereof and shall he
required to hold a Texas State Teacher's Certificate of no tower standing than
a six-year elementary or a four-year high school grade provided that those
teachers now in the state aid schools not measuring up to this standard may
continue their work in state aid, schools, if they attend a standard State
Teacher's College or other standard college or university each summer until
such standard shall have been attained. In so far as possible, teachers in
state aid schools shall secure special preparation in the subjects or grades
whereiri they are employed to teach?'
