COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
301. Laboratory six hours per week. The purpose of this course
is to apply the principles of design to costumes.
Topics: Color, line, harmony, rhythm, repetition, unity, and
balance as applied to the costume. A study of the individual
figure is made, and the appropriateness of color and line to the
individual and to the occasion. Special attention is given to the
stout and slender figures.
353.-Clothing. Pattern drafting and construction. Laboratory
six hours per week. Prerequisite, Clothing 304 and prerequisite
or parallel Clothing 322. The purpose of this course is
to give a more thorough knowledge of the human form and the
principles of drafting and designing and their application to pattern
making. It includes padding the dress form to fit the tight
lining, construction of wool and silk garments, and appropriate
accessories. Formerly this course was Clothing 313.
363.-Clothing. Historic Costume. Lecture and recitation
three hours per week. The purpose of this course is to give the
student a survey of historic costume from ancient to modern times
and to furnish students with a fund of knowledge from which to
draw in the creating of new designs adapted to modern needs.
Formerly combined with costume design and called Clothing 265.
This is not a laboratory course.
383.-Clothing. Designing, modeling, and draping. Labatory
six hours a week. Prerequisite, Clothing 353 and parallel
or prerequisite Clothing 363. The purpose of the course is to
bring together from previous courses, especially historic costume,
facts and inspiration which will enable the student to create
beautiful designs.
Topics: Adaptability of line, color, fabrics, and decoration
to different types of individuals; the designing and draping on
a form an afternoon or evening dress, a spring coat, or evening
wrap, and entirely original design worked out for any garment
in the wardrobe.
GENERAL HOME ECONOMICS.
326.-Home Nursing. Lecture and recitation three hours
a week. This course includes hygiene, care of the sick in the
home, infant feeding, nutritional diseases, bandaging, emergencies,
communicable diseases, and functional diseases. Formerly
this course was called Foods 253. This is not a laboratory
course.
