After the choice of his major is made each student takes the
instructor in charge of his major subject as his adviser. No work
should be taken by a student without consulting his adviser.
A. Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree
1. All general requirements under "I".
Requirements For A Degree
In order to receive a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science
degree from Abiler- Christian College, a student must meet the general
requirements ander "I" and the specific requirements under
either "A" or "B" below.
A student is permitted to meet the requirements set forth in the
catalogue published the year he enters Abilene Christian College,
or any subsequent year, provided that not more than six years have
elapsed from the time he enters until he graduates, and provided
further that he satisfies all of the requirements set forth in any one
issue.
I. General Requirements
1. The candidate for graduation must have satisfied all entrance
requirements.
2. One hundred twenty semester hours. and in addition thereto
four one-hour courses in physical education. (The physical education
must be done during the first two years of college work unless
excused by the dean on recommendation of the college physician).
3. Twenty-four hours in a major field, twelve hours of which
must be advanced, and six of these must be done in A. C. C.
4. Eighteen hours in one of the minors specified under the major
subject.
5. Thirty hours of advanced work, twenty-one of which must be
m the major and minor.
6. An average grade of C. Not more than thirty hours with D
grade may count toward graduation
7. One year with a minimum of thirty hours of residence work.
Fifteen hours immediately preceding graduation must be done in
Abilene Christian College.
8. By May 10 preceding the spring commencement, and August
10 preceding the summer commencement, the candidate must
pass a comprehensive examination over his major field.
9. Students who fail to make an average of "B" in freshman
and sophomore English are required to take a proficiency test in
English during the fall semester of the junior year. If they fail this
test, they are required to take English 013.
10. Character: Mere intellectual attainment is not the sole basis
for graduation nor should it be the largest factor. It is the purpose
of Abilene Christian College to recommend for graduation only such
young men and women as have clean morals and are honest, trustworthy,
and free from such bad habits as: the use of intoxicants,
gambling in any form, neglecting to settle all obligations punctually
and satisfactorily, or any other habits that the faculty may specify
as injurious and degrading to the individual and hurtful to the College.34
