do all or part of their work in Abilene Christian College with the
assurance that it is recognized as meeting the standards of the highest
accrediting agencies in the country. It is also accepted by the
state departments of education for the purpose of granting teaching
certificates.
PURPOSE
The purpose of Abilene Christian College is to prepare its students
for Christian living, while teaching them at the same time
how to cope with the problems they will meet in the world.
CAMPUS AND BUILDINGS
The thirty-four acre campus of Abilene Christian College has
been increased to fifty-two acres to provide space for the new
buildings which are being added. At the present time there are
twelve brick buildings on the campus with another now under
construction. These buildings include the Hardin Adminstration
Building; Sewell Auditorium; three residence halls for womenMcDonald
Hall, Zellner Hall, and McKinzie Hall; Chambers Hall,
housing the library and cafeteria; Zona Luce Building, housing
the demonstration school; the ACC Press Building; Bennett Gymnasium;
the Science Building; the President's home; and Julia
Hall, an apartment house. The building under construction is a
residence hall for men which is to be completed during the summer
of 1953. In addition, there are a number of temporary structures
housing band, orchestra, and music practice rooms and studios;
classrooms, offices, workshops, and storerooms; and affording
apartment and rooming accommodations. Another temporary
building houses the Student Exchange which includes the post
office, book store, and grill. In connection with its Agriculture
Department, the school operates a 522-acre farm with two sets of
buildings. Just east of the main portion of the campus is Morris
Stadium with a sodded football field, quarter mile track, baseball
and softball diamonds, archery range, tennis courts, and football
practice field.
THE LIBRARY
The College Library, located on the main and second floors of
Julia Chambers Building, contains approximately 32,000 bound volumes,
microcards, and microfilms, periodicals, pamphlets, newspapers,
clippings, and records. Books and approximately 50 periodical
titles are available on microfilm or microcard. The collection
of all records includes language, history, literature, music, shorthand,
speech, and typing discs.
In addition to our campus facilities, students of Abilene Christian
College have access to the other college and university libraries
in Abilene. Inter-library loans are easily and quickly available. The
