STUDENT HEALTH
Abilene Christian College is making a special effort to look after
the health of its students. The faculty includes a doctor serving part
time and a graduate nurse who works full time. Each new student
coming to Abilene Christian College is required to have a thorough
physical examination by his or her family physician prior to arrival
on the campus, and a certificate to that effect must be sent to the
Registrar's office before admission. The college also makes available
a student group hospitalization program. This is a volunteer program
covering the student twenty-four hours a day beginning September 1
and ending August 31. Information concerning this program may be
secured from the Dean of Students' Office.
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COLLEGE
In case of serious injury or illness of students, parents are notified.
The nurse is called and assumes control, and should the parent or student
want another nurse or physician, the College has no objection;
but it has no financial or other obligation in such a case.
No student, parent, teacher, or coach has any authority to charge
or have charged to the College any medical or other bill, even though
the student may have been hurt while representing the College. Any
physician, dentist, nurse, or other practitioner rendering service to
such injured or sick student is hereby notified that he must look to the
student or his or her parents for remuneration unless the bill is approved
in advance by the College business office.
Students who take part in football, basketball, track, or any other
activity in college life do so at their own risk. The College has made
provision to care for its sick and injured, but it is not responsible
financially or otherwise except in so far as the accident expenses,
injury, or sickness is due to its negligence.42
