307-General Botany (2-3)
A course designed to give the student a general knowledge of life
in the plant kingdom. A study of the structure and functions of
the root, stem, and leaf; the relation of plants to the soil, and the
economic importance of fruits, seeds, and vegetables. Especially
recommended for students of agriculture and forestry, and for
those using biology or botany for their major subjects.
308-General Botany (2-3)
A study of the principal groups of plants, their classification and
life histories, and the importance of the seed habit. An introduction
to the principles of genetics and some attention to the local
flora of the region, especially the flowering plants.
411-General Zoology (3-3)
A study of the Scientific Method, characteristics of protoplasm,
cell division, tissues, and representatives of each major invertebrate
phylum. Emphasis is on structure, principles, and functional
processes. Designed for those majoring or minoring in science.
Not credited without 412 or equivalent.
412-General Zoology (3-3)
A study of the chordate phylum and the principles of zoology.
Special emphasis is placed on the amphioxus, frog, fetal pig, maturation
and mechanisms of heredity.
441-Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (1-6)
A study of the antomy of the principal classes of Phylum Chordata.
Dissection of amphioxus, dogfish, shark, necturus and cat.
Prerequisite: 411, 412; or 401, 402.
330-Anatomy and Physiology for P.E. Majors (2-3)
A basic course in antomy and physiology of man. Designed primarily
for physical education majors.
332-Kinesiology (2-3)
A study of the anatomic foundations and mechanics of human
motion and the basic principles underlying motor skills. It is
designed primarily for physical education majors and minors.
351-Genetics (2-3)
A general survey course in heredity. The principles of inheritance
in plants and animals, with particular application to man. Prerequisite:
Six hours of biology.
353-Microbiology (2-4)
Principles of microbiology. Morphology, culture, and staining tendencies
of representative forms, with emphasis on organisms of
domestic, industrial, or pathogenic significance. Prerequisite: Six
hours of biology, or six hours of chemistry; and junior standing.
354-Pathogenic Micro-organisms (2-4)
Habitats, habits, life history, methods of cultivation, and pathogenic
relationships of plant and animal pathogens. Viruses, principles
of immunization, and disease control. Prerequisite: Biology
353, or twelve hours of biology and junior standing.
357--Plant Physiology (2-3)
Vegetative and reproductive organs of plants; structure and functions
of plant organs.96
