Business Administration 399, 399gr., The American Economic System
A practical presentation of how the American system of business under free enterprise has
developed, problems faced today, and the outlook for the future. Subjects to be studied include:
free enterprise in America and the development of capitalism, the American labor movement,
banking and the money supply, the Federal Reserve System, money and prices, taxation, corporations
and monopoly, liberal socialism and the welfare state, totalitarian Communism,
totalitarian Fascism, and making capitalism work. Instructor: Dr. William E. Wright.
English 399, 399gr., Masters of American Literature
A study of the masterpieces of American literature with the objective of providing greater
insight into the mind and art of Americans of belles-lettres. Among authors to be studied are
Edwards, Poe, Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, Whitman, Twain, Dickinson, Frost, Eliot,
and Faulkner. Instructor: Dr. Dale Hesser.

A study of the history of education in a free society. Attention is given to historic movements
for individual liberty, our English heritage, education in colonial America, the national government
and education, education in the 20th century, and unresolved issues in education. Instructor:

Marshall, Calhoun, Lee, and Lincoln. Instructor: Dr. John C. Stevens.

A study of Christianity in contrast to the totalitarian system of Communism. The objective of

from the standpoint of its impact on the individual soul and mind. The philosophy of Communism
will be compared throughout the course with Christian philosophy. Instructor: Dr. Frank Pack.
