A study of scene design from the Greek period to the present; the theory of scene
design and its relation to the production.
5367. Theatre Lighting.
A historical survey of lighting and its effect on designing, directing, and acting.
5370. Advanced Directing: Principles and Practice.
Special focus on the directing of period plays. Basic differences between staging the
Greek, Roman, Medieval, Neo-Classic, Commedia dell'art, Elizabethan, Restoration,
19th Century Melodrama, and Early Realistic Play will be studied. Prerequisite: Speech
3354 or permission.
5395. History of the Theatre.
The history of the world theatre through periods of great dramatic productions, play
produced, and methods of producing them in school and college theatres.
6360. Seminar in Theatre Problems.
Areas of theatre covered are: direction, acting, history, and management.
6362. Problems in Technical Theatre.
A study of technical work, designing and technical direction of production in the college
or campus school. A production book is required. Prerequisite: Speech 6360.

5352. Introduction to Audiology.
Surveys the science of hearing, and of the social and clinical endeavors centered in
the problems of hearing loss and deafness. Prerequisite or corequisite: Speech 2325.
5353. Hearing Rehabilitation.
Theory and practice of acoustic amplification, auditory training, speech reading, speech
rehabilitation for the acoustically handicapped.
5356. Speech Pathology I.
A study of voice, articulation, delayed speech development, and fluency disorders.
Includes case studies and clinical observation. Prerequisite: Communication 2335.
5357. Speech Pathology II.
A study of organic speech and language disorders. Speech problems associated with
cleft palate, cerebral palsy, laryngeal disorders and aphasia. Includes case studies and
clinical observations. Prerequisite: Communication 2335.
5371. Methods in Language and Learning Disabilities.
A survey of the more prominent methodological approaches to the education of children
with language and substantial learning disabilities. (Same as Psy 5377 and Ed. 5377).
5380. Diagnostic Methods in Speech Pathology.
Theoretical and laboratory study of instruments, procedures, and paradigms used in
diagnosis and assessment of speech and language disorders.
5381. Neurological and Physiological Processes of Communication.
Fundamental principles of neurology and physiology with special reference to the functions
of the central nervous system, as related to speech, hearing and language disorders.
5293, 5393, 5493. Clinical Practice in Speech Correction.
Experience in clinical procedures in speech pathology. Designed to familiarize the student
with diagnostic procedures and clinical experience in handling cases. Prerequisite: Speech
3356 and 3357.
5294, 5394, 5494. Advanced Clinical Practice in Speech Pathology.
Continuation of 5293, 5393, 5493, but may be taken as an independent unit.
6359. Seminar in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Theory in Speech Pathology.
Studies in a specialized area of speech pathology; evaluation of Diagnostic and Therapeutic
literature. May be taken more than one semester. Limit-6 hours.
6361. Special Problems in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
In-depth study of various problems, concepts and subjects in speech pathology and
audiology.

Evaluation of theoretical and experimental literature in speech pathology; supervised
