EDUCATION * 49
Department of Education
Director of Graduate Studies: W.H. Avinger
It is the purpose of the graduate program in education to prepare master
teachers for elementary and secondary school classrooms, and to provide
competent personnel for roles as school administratoars, school supervisors
educational diagnosticians, and school counselors. To this end, graduate
programs in education are offered in the following areas of educational
activity:
The Elementary Teacher The School Counselor
The Secondary Teacher The Educational Diagnostician
The Elementary School The School Administrator
Supervisor
The Secondary School
Supervisor
The student may work toward the Master of Science degree in education
or the Master of Education degree. Some of the programs lend themselves
more readily to the Master of Education pattern.
The programs are planned to prepare students, as far as possible, for
Texas public school certification. The student should understand, however,
that professional certification assumes an undergraduate preparation leading
to the provisional certificate. If a student wishes to work toward a Master's
degree in education and a certificate, he should make certain that a graduate
program is planned to serve this dual purpose.
