GENERAL INFORMATION 9
must be approved by the Dean of the Graduate School, and normally may not
total more than 15 hours for a semester or six hours for a summer term.
Students employed full-time in Abilene Christian College or elsewhere
should not enroll for more than nine hours during any long session (nine
months) and three hours during a five-week summer term. Teachers employed
full-time must have the approval of their superintendent and the Dean
of the Graduate School to take as many as six hours during any one semester
(not more than nine in nine months). The teaching load and the course
load of a graduate assistant are not normally to exceed 15 semester hours.
9. Time Limit for Completion of a Graduate Program
After a student has been admitted to graduate study, he must complete
all work for the master's degree within six calendar years. If he fails to do
so, he must do whatever additional work the Graduate Council prescribes.
This regulation applies to work being transferred from another institution as
well as to work done in Abilene Christian College.
10. Grading System
a. Grades of A, B, C, D, E, I, IP, F, WP, and WF are recorded for
graduate courses.
b. The minimum grade average required for graduation is 3.0 (B),
computed on all work taken for graduate credit. No grade below "C" will
count toward the degree.
c. No grade may be raised except by repeating the course involved, in
which case both grades will count on the student's grade average.
d. The following table of values is observed in grading:
A . . . . 4 grade points per semester hour.
B . . . . 3 grade points per semester hour.
C .... 2 grade points per semester hour.
D . . . . 1 grade point per semester hour.
E, I or IP 0 grade points per semester hour.
F . . . . 0 grade points per semester hour.
WP . .. 0 grade points per semester hour.
WF . .. 0 grade points per semester hour.
e. A grade of "I" (incomplete) will be assigned only when illness or
some other valid reason prevents the student's completing a course by the
end of the semester. An "I" must be removed during the next 16-week
semester following the one for which it was assigned or it will automatically
be converted into an "F."
Since a thesis or research project will frequently extend beyond the
semester of enrollment the "I" will not be used in these courses. A thesis or
research project which is not completed by the end of the semester of enrollment
will be reported "IP" (in progress).
11. Registration and Guidance
a. No student will be enrolled in graduate classes without permission
from the Dean of the Graduate School.
b. Before enrolling as a graduate student, the student should consult
the head of his major department or graduate advisor, who will explain any
deficiencies that must be removed and assist the student in selecting appropriate
courses for his first semester's work.
