An analysis of business conditions during prosperity and depression and a
study of the various theories that attempt to account for the fluctuation of
business activity. The relation between business prosperity and social welfare.
A study of the various proposals for the elimination of cyclical fluctuations,
and a brief history of business cycles.
5396. Labor Problems.
The history of the development of trade unionism in the United States, types
of labor organizations, the aims, methods, and policies. The National Labor
Relations Act, its interpretation and application. The attempts of labor, of
employers, and of the government to solve the labor problems.
5397. Labor Legislation.
A study of labor problems with special emphasis on labor legislation. Attention
is given to state laws, the National Labor Relations Act, Labor Management
Relations Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, the Sherman Act, and collective bargaining
practices. Prerequisite: 5396.
