Courses in Minor Fields
AGRICULTURE
Vocational agriculture teachers desiring to work toward a Master
of Science Degree in education and minor in agriculture may write
their theses in agriculture. Students who select the Master of Education
program may also use agriculture as the teaching field.
COURSES FOR ADVANCED UNDERGRADUATES AND GRADUATES
350 - Soil Fertility and Management.
A study of soil fertility and its management to increase productivity.
The course includes fertility diagnosis by chemical tests, and a
study of the use of commercial fertilizers and other soil improving
practices for the purpose of increasing productivity of the soil. Two
lecture and three laboratory hours per week. Prerequisites: Agriculture
333, and six hours of chemistry.
352 - Animal Nutrition.
A study of the general basis of nutrition, the nutrients, the measurements
of body needs and feed values, nutritive requirements for
body processes and productive functions. Two lecture and three
laboratory hours per week. Prerequisites: Chemistry 431, Agriculture
3yl, 312, 336.
353 - Forage and Pasture Crops.
Production, harvesting, storing, and using forage crops. Green
manure, cover crops, hay and pasture crops. Identification of seeds and
plants. Injurious plants and their control. Pasture conservation, revegetation,
and management; cultivated pastures. Two lectures and three
laboratory hours per week. Prerequisites: Agriculture 312, and six
semester hours of botany.
354 - Range Management.
The study of planned range use in order to obtain the maximum
livestock production while at the same time conserving the grassland
of our country. Range utilization studies, methods of reseeding range
land, and the study of range improvement techniques. Two lecture
and three laboratory hours per week. Prerequisite: Agriculture 353.
355 - Wildlife Management.
Principles of animal ecology and wildlife management: life histories,
economics, and management phases of important species of big
