theory. Special problems including the transformation problem, the
transshipment problem, the assignment problem, and sensitivity
analysis. Prerequisite: MATH 127 or consent of instructor. Course

MATH 561 Ordinary Differential Equations (3-0-3), spring. First order
linear equations, oscillation theory and boundary value problems,
power series solutions, Laplace transforms, systems of first order
equations. Special topics include pursuit curves, the brachistochrone
problem, the vibrating string, and Volterra's prey-predator equations.
Prerequisite: MATH 186.
MATH 577 Statistical Methods II (3-0-3), spring. Single factor and
multifactor analysis of variance, linear and nonlinear regression,
categorical data analysis, nonparametric procedures. Prerequisite:
MATH 277. Course fee: $35.
MATH 578 Mathematical Statistics (3-0-3), on demand. Distributions
of random variables and functions of random variables, conditional
probability, stochastic independence, some special probability
distributions, limiting distributions and estimation. Prerequisites:
MATH 286 and 277.
MATH 584 Lebesgue Measure and Fourier Series (3-0-3), spring,
even-numbered years. Introduction to the Lebesgue integral and its
application to sequences and series of functions including Fourier
Series. Prerequisite: 6 hours of advanced mathematics.
