magazine feature articles. Emphasis on identifying subjects, research,
interviewing, and writing. Prerequisites: COMJ 223, 224, 341.
COMj 551 Magazine Production (3-0-3), on demand. Develops skills in
producing magazines, including practical application of the principles of
typography, layout, and production. Prerequisites: COMJ 341, 542, or

of basic journalistic skills and administrative abilities needed by
secondary school journalism teachers and publications advisors.

Photojournalism
COMJ 133 Personal Photography (3-1-3), on demand. Study of history of
photography and survey of cameras, lighting and speed variables, lens
and shutter, films, composition, and how to prepare an effective slide
show. Darkroom techniques will be demonstrated. For non-journalism
and mass communication majors.
COMJ 233 Introduction to Photography (3-0-3), fall, spring, summer.
In-depth introduction to the basic principles of photography with
emphasis upon shooting assignments, processing film, and making quality
prints. Course fee: $25.00.
COMJ 314 Photography Workshop (1-3-1), fall, spring. Staff photography
work on the student newspaper or the yearbook. Minimum of one staff
meeting and three hours of publication work per week. May be
repeated for not more than 3 hours of credit. Prerequisite: COMJ 333.
COMJ 333 Photojournalism (3-3-3), spring. Study of the use of the camera
and photographs to report and tell a story in the media. Extensive
laboratory experience. Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: COMJ 333.

photojournalism. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.
COMj 495 Photojournalism (303), fall, spring. On-the-job training for a
minimum of 320 hours under the director of the JMC internship program
and a supervisor at a newspaper. Prerequisites: senior standing as a
photojournalism major and approval by the journalism and mass
communication faculty.
Public Relations
COMj 311 Yearbook Workshop (1-3-1), fall, spring. Staff work on college
yearbook. Minimum of one staff meeting and three hours of publication
work per week. May be repeated for not more than 3 hours credit.

COMJ 347 Public Relations Principles (3-3), fall. Modern concepts of
public relations, emphasizing ways business and institutions interpret
themselves to society and communicate their messages to various
publics. Prerequisite: COMJ 540 or junior standing.
COMj 348 Public Relations Methods (3-3-3), spring. A study of the practical
applications of public relations principles, including publicity
writing, media relations, publications, and campaigns. Course fee: $25.00.
Prerequisites: COMJ 223, 341, 347.
COMJ 400 Guided Study (0-0-3)*, on demand. Independent study in one
of five areas: advertising, photojournalism, public reations, news editorial,
or radio-television. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.
COMJ 498 Public Relations Internship (00-3), fall, spring. On-the-job
training for a minimum of 320 hours under the director of the JMC
internship program and a supervisor in a public relations department of
an agency, business, hospital, university, or other institution. Prerequisites:
senior standing as a public relations major and approval by the
journalism and mass communication faculty.
COMJ 594 Public Relations Case Studies (3-0-3), fall. A study of issues
and problems in public relations management, with emphasis on
problem-solving, evaluation, and application of public relations
techniques. Prerequisites: COMJ 347, 348 or senior standing.Radio-Television
COMJ 111 Announcing (3-3-3), spring. Develops basic verbal skills
necessary to read radio-television copy on the air. Areas of concentration
will include phonetic skills, proper diction, pronunciation,
simultaneous announcing and equipment usage, and FCC rules for
operator practices.
COMJ 115 Radio Workshop (1-3-1), fall, spring. Staff work on radio
station KACU. Minimum of one staff meeting and three hours of radio
station operations per week. Prerequisite: COMJ 111.
COMJ 116 Television Workshop (1-3-1), fall, spring. Staff work on ACU
Television. Minimum of one meeting and three hours of television

station operations, terminology, FCC regulations, control room
practices, departmental responsibilities, and operation of electronic

COMJ 231 Audio Production (3-3), fall, spring. A study of the
techniques of radio production and performance, including announcing,
taping, editing, console procedures, and auditioning. Course fee: $25.00.
Prerequisite: COMJ 117.
COMJ 260 Television Production (243), fall, spring. All elements of
television production are studied, including the camera, audio, lighting,
graphics, production, and direction. The labs provide production
