Post-Admission Transfer Credit
An ACU student may receive credit for courses taken concurrently
or during a summer term at another university or college, subject to the
following restrictions:
1. A student must obtain written permission from the Chairman
of his major department and the Dean of the college before
enrolling in another institution for post-admission transfer credit.
2. After being classified as a junior, a student may take no more
than six hours at a junior college.
3. A student not in a cooperative degree program must earn his
last 24 hours before graduation in residence at ACU. He must
also earn in residence a minimum of 24 semester hours of
upper division work including 9 hours in his major.
4. Evaluation of transfer work intended to meet specific ACU
degree requirements is the responsibility of department chairmen.
How such transfer credit is applied toward an ACU undergraduate
degree depends on an evaluation of each course to determine its
equivalence in content and semester-hour credit to a corresponding
ACU course. A course for which no ACU course of equivalent content
is found is counted as an elective. A course which carries more credit
than the corresponding ACU course is counted as equivalent to the
ACU course, and the additional hours are counted as elective credit.
Certain courses or blocks of courses at ACU are followed by
proficiency or exit tests. Students who take these courses at other
schools will be expected to pass the required tests when they return to
ACU.
Credit by Examination
If your past grades or test scores indicate that you have outstanding
academic potential, it is possible to be exempt from or to receive
college credit in certain courses. A maximum of 30 semester hours
may be earned towards meeting degree requirements. All additional
hours of credit earned will be listed on the transcript.

PRIVACY RIGHTS OF STUDENTS
Annual notice to Students
Annually, Abilene Christian University informs students of the
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. This act, with
which the institution intends to comply fully, was designated to protect
the privacy of educational records, to establish the right of students to
inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines
for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and
formal hearings. Students also have the right to file complaints with the
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office (FERPA) concerning
alleged failures by the institution to comply with the Act.
Local policy explains in detail the procedures to be used by the
institution for compliance with the provisions of the Act. Copies of the
policy can be found in the following office: Student Personnel Services
on the second floor of the Administration Building.
Questions concerning the Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act may be referred to the Student Personnel Services office.Disclosure of Student Records
In general, no personally identifiable information from a student's
education records will be disclosed without written consent from the
student. Two exceptions may, however, be made: (1) directory information
will be released unless the student requests that it be withheld, as
explained in the section below; (2) records may be disclosed to parents
of students who depend upon them as defined by Internal Revenue
Code 1954, Section 152. The university will consider all students as
"dependent" unless they specifically inform the Office of Student
Personnel Services within twelve (12) calendar days from the first day
of final registration each term that they are independent of their parents
as defined above.
Public Notice Designating Directory Information
Abilene Christian University hereby designates the following categories
of student information as public or "Directory Information." Such
information may be disclosed by the institution for any purpose, at its
discretion.
Category I-Name, classification, major field of study, home address,
local residence, telephone number. (Hello Book information.)
Category II-Previous institutions attended, dates of attendance,
awards, honors (including Dean's list), degree(s) conferred (including
dates), church affiliation, past and present participation in officially
recognized sports and activities, physical factors (height, weight of
athletes), date and place of birth.
Currently enrolled students may withhold disclosure of either or
both categories of information under the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974. To withhold disclosures, written notification must
be received in the Office of Student Personnel Services within twelve
(12) calendar days from the first day of registration for each term [four
(4) days for Summer terms]. Forms requesting the withholding of
"Directory Information" are available in the Student Personnel Services
office on the second floor of the Administration Building.
Abilene Christian University assumes that failure on the part of any
student to specifically request the withholding of categories of "Directory
Information" indicates individual approval for disclosure.
