COMS 286 Speech Activities in Elementary School (3-0-3), fall,
spring, summer. The nature, function, and scope of the speech program
in the elementary school, stressing creative dramatics. Required for
elementary school teachers, substitutes for COMS 111.
COMS 341 Interpersonal Communications (3-0-3), spring. Skills
and theory of interpersonal relationships, including marriage, family, and
work. Deals with communication variables that influence dyads. Course
fee: $10.
COMS 343 Business and Professional Communication (3-0-3),
fall, spring, summer. A course designed to apply communication theory
to the solving of business or professional interpersonal problems. Stresses
theory systems adapted to organizational structure; interviewing and
conference techniques as well as public speaking in professional settings.

COMS 345 Intercultural Communications (3-0-3), fall. Stresses
understanding of contrasting cultures and ways of communicating with
individuals and groups from around the world as well as subcultures

of decision-making, communication assessment, and communication

and practice of communication strategies in corporate and legal advocacy

the ancient world, with historical background. Emphasis on rhetorical
theories developed in Greek and Roman public address, as well as recent

preparation, and presentation practice. Identifies basic sermon types and
