world: their origin, physical and chemical aspects, food cycles, biota, geology,

function with an emphasis on cellular energy-related events, proteins, and

physiology, development, classification, economic importance, and control

$35.BIOL 474 Biochemistry 11 (3-0-3), spring. Emphasizes the bioenergetics
and metabolism of the ATP cycle, glycolysis, citric acid cycle, electron
transport, oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid oxidation, urea cycle,
as well as hormone action, nutrition, biosynthesis of lipids, amino acids,
nucleotides, and carbohydrates, including photosynthesis, the structure of
chromosomes and genes, the replication and transcription of DNA, protein
biosynthesis and its regulation and repair, mutation, recombination,
and cloning of genes. May be credited without CHEM 453 and 435 with
consent of instructor. Prerequisite: CHEM 324. Same as CHEM 454.
BIOL 475 Molecular Biology (3-3-4), spring. A study of the molecular
interactions that take place during mitosis, meiosis, cell activation and
inactivation, gene activation and inactivation, transcription, reverse transcription,
translation, organelle synthesis and formation, morphogenetic
cell movement, membrane synthesis. Laboratory graded and credited
with the course. Prerequisites: BIOL 312/313 or CHEM 454 or concurrent
enrollment. Lab fee $35.
BIOL 480 Histology (2-3-3), fall. Detailed microscopic anatomy of
the tissues and organs of higher vertebrates. Laboratory graded and credited

design, including common techniques in descriptive and inferential statistics.
