General Electives
To obtain a total of 128 credit hours, the student majoring
in International Studies must take from 16 to 45 hours of
general electives, including deficiency requirements in
science and foreign language. Arrange your electives to
ensure 33 semester hours of advanced work. Working with
your adviser, you should focus your entire program on a
proposed career.

Admission Requirements
Before being admitted to this program, a student must
satisfy the requirements listed under "Initial Academic
Programs," p. 15.
General Education Requirements
General Education requirements (University Core and
Degree Core requirements) for the BA are listed on p. 20.
As a part of, or in addition to, these requirements, majors
must satisfy the following:
1. HIST 221 and 222 (American History)
2. ENGL 231 and 232 (World Literature)
3. POLS 225
4. ANTH 411
Students should work closely with their adviser before
registering each semester to ensure that all General
Education requirements are fulfilled.
Departmental Requirements
Departmental requirements for the BA in International
Studies with a U.S. focus are as follows:

English, no additional language prerequisites must be
met. However, if English is the student's first
language, junior level proficiency (15 hrs.) in a
second language must be demonstrated.
Core courses, 6 hrs.: POLS 487, and INTS 499.
Geographic concentration (USA), 9 hrs., chosen
from the following: HIST 421, 451, 452, 455, 475,
482, and 486.4. Specialty courses, 15 hrs. from at least three different
departments:
a. Bible/Missions (BMIS 371 and BIBH 357). One
of these courses may satisfy the general education
advanced Bible requirement
b. Business (MGMT 434 or BUSA 450).
c. Communication (COMS 345, 383).
d. Geography (GEOG 354).
e. International Studies (INTS 400).
f. Literature (ENGL 327, 328, 443, and 472).
g. Political Science (POLS 381, 492, and 498).
5. A minimum GPA of 2.25 for courses in major.General Electives

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
General Education Requirements
As a part of, or in addition to, the General Education
requirements (University Core and Degree Core
requirements) of the chosen major, students must satisfy
the following:
1. History of Civilization, 6 hrs.: HIST 117 and 118.
Students should work closely with their adviser before
registering each semester to ensure that all General
Education requirements are fulfilled.

Departmental requirements for the Certificate in
International Studies are as follows:

1. Foreign Language, 0-15 hrs. The student must
demonstrate first semester junior level proficiency in
Spanish, German, or French, depending upon degree
emphasis. Credit hours in other languages may be
transferred from other institutions or credit may be
given by examination.
2. Required courses, 6 hrs.: ANTH 101 (may satisfy
general education requirement in behavioral science.)
and POLS 487.
3. Interdisciplinary distribution, 12 hrs., chosen from at
least three of the following areas with a focus on one
culture area:
a. Business (MGMT 434, BUSA 450).
b. Communication (COMS 345, 383).
c. Geography (GEOG 354).
d. History (HIST 223, 224, 416, 451, 452, 472,
479, and 495).
e. Literature (FLFR 484, FLGE 484, and FLSP 482
or 483).
f. Missions (BMIS 331, 371, and 445). One of these
courses may satisfy the general education advanced
Bible requirement.
g. Political Science (POLS 345, 357, and 358).
