rigourous exegesis for preaching and effective delivery of sermons based
on the unique styles, problems and themes of diverse biblical genres.

BIBM 498 Integration of Psychology and Theology (3-0-3), fall. An investigation
of the relationship of psychological and emotional factors
relating to religious experience and thought on both an individual and a
group basis.
Missions
#BMIS 329 Field Work (3-0-3), spring. Students will set their own goals
and structure procedures in a missions involvement project among
peoples of different ethnic groups in Abilene, under the guidance of the
professor in charge. Requirements for this course may also be satisfied
by participation in faculty approved evangelistic efforts at home and
abroad.
BMIS 331 World Christians (3-0-3), fall, spring. The world-wide implications
of Christian belief and church life for every Christian.
#BMIS 333 Leadership Training (3-0-3), bi-yearly, summer. An evaluation
of leadership training methods abroad. The student will design an
extension model and write a proven unit extension education model.
BMIS 346 Missionary Principles and Practices (3-0-3), fall, spring, summer.
An attempt to determine Biblical principles relating to world evangelism
and a search for effective methods in proclaiming the Good News.
BMIS 356 The Mission and Expansion of the New Testament Church
(3-0-3), fall. The missionary character of the first century church with
special emphasis given to the methods of Paul.
BMIS 371 Introduction to the Study of Religion (3-0-3), spring. Examination
of various aspects of religion from the perspective of the
major living world religions to gain a greater skillfulness in approaching
the non-Christian. Same as BIBD 371.
BMIS 400 Guided Study (0-0-6)*. Arranged with instructor and department
chairman.
BMIS 419 Introduction to Missionary Research (3-0-3), fall. A basic
course in cross-cultural research techniques which stresses observation
skills, questionnaire writing, and elementary statistics.
BMIS 426 The Missionary Woman (3-0-3), summer. The missionary
woman's sphere of service on the foreign field with emphasis on her role
as a teacher, personal worker, wife and mother, and how these roles will
be modified by life and work within a different culture.
BMIS 444 Urban Anthropology (3-0-3), fall, summer. The study of
urban areas from a cross-cultural perspective. Sociological-anthropological
methods of urban analysis. Research tools to enable the urban
worker to understand the city and to develop strategies for introducing
the Gospel to city dwellers.
BMIS 445 Missionary Anthropology (3-0-3), fall, spring, summer. The
cultures of people throughout the world with emphasis on cultural patterns.BMIS 448 Introduction to Cross - Cultural Church Growth (3-0-3), fall.
Deals with growth and development, both numerically and spiritually, of
self-supported leadership and teaching in mission churches.
#BMIS 449 Teaching English as a Second Language (3-0-3), summer.
Techniques of teaching English to non-English speakers. A helpful
course for those desiring to be self-supporting missionaries.
BMIS 458 Special Topics in Missions (3-0-3), summer. A variety of
mini-courses which provide practical training for cross-cultural workers
(such as indigeniety, team missions, appropriate technology, house churches,
missionary medical training, ham radio, Marxism, medical
anthropology, ethnopsychology, communicating with non-literates, Bible
translations, hymnology, kinship systems, and visual anthropology).
#BMIS 469 Introduction to Linguistics (3-0-3), summer. The science
of language with emphasis varying with the needs and aims of the class.
Same as COMP 469, ENGL 469.BMIS 480 Urban Evangelism (3-0-3), summer. A study of the
metropolitan centers of the world and how the Christian message has
and is being presented in these cities.
BMIS 489 Animism (3-0-3), summer. A study of the religious beliefs of
those people who worship spirits, especially spirits of the dead.
