A-s people grow more and more intelligent, music w ill le regarded
more and more as something solid( alndl earnest, anid it must
eventually take its place beside Mathematics, Language and
Science in the regular College course.
In the Howard Payne Conservatory, we teach music as a science,
xxs well as an art. The studies of harmony, form, counterpoint
and composition are based upon profound, mIathematical truths,
and contain problems fully as deep as any to be found in Mechanics
or Astronomy. Musical form has been called the Geometry of
Iusic, and the science of acoustics bears an anolagy to Astronomy.
The study of rhythm-the hard practical everyday Arithmetic of
music. We require the two years course in harmony and
history of music for graduation, alnd the post-graduate course
includes the study of form and composition.
Our course for the piano, can, with faithful study a.nd practice,
be completed in six years time. There are three classes-the preparatory,
the intermediate, and the graduating,
