BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
Degrees
Howard Payne College confers the degrees of Bachelor of
Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Education.
GENERAL REGULATIONS
Degrees will be conferred publicly on commencement days
in May and August. Candidates for degrees must complete a
minimum of 30 semester hours of residence work. The student
must be in attendance during the last semester or term of his
senior year. Candidates for degrees must be present in person to
receive them.
At the beginning of the semester or term in which the student
expects to graduate, he must file with the Registrar of the
College an Application for Graduation. A form for this purpose
may be secured in the Registrar's Office.
Advanced work in all fields is based on a minimum of six
semester hours of credit. In some subjects, such as English, the
minimum is twelve semester hours.
In order to encourage a high standard of scholastic attainment
the institution recognizes members of the senior class at
graduation, designating three groups. Seniors who have accumulated
a minimum of 318 honor points on 120 semester hours of
work graduate with honors; those who have accumulated 330
honor points on 120 semester hours of work graduate with high
honors; while those who have accumulated 342 honor points on
120 semester hours graduate with highest honors.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF
ARTS DEGREE
1. A minimum of 124 semester hours and 124 honor points.
2. A major of not fewer than 27 semester hours, including
at least 15 hours of advanced work.
3. A minor of not fewer than 18 semester hours, including
at least 6 hours of advanced work.
4. A minimum of 12 semester hours in English (English
101-2, 201-2).
5. A minimum of 12 semester hours in foreign language.
6. A minimum of 6 semester hours in mathematics.
7. A minimum of 6 semester hours in social science.49
