BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
The six hours credit for the thesis will be recorded as Education
599. A student may not enroll for the thesis course before
he has been admitted to candidacy for the Master's degree. Should
the student find it impracticable to complete the thesis in the
semester or term in which he is enrolled for it, he will receive
a grade of "I" in it with the privilege of redeeming credit for
the thesis by completion thereof at any time prior to the time
of his graduation. The student will not be expected to enroll for
the thesis course a second time.
Each student who elects to write a thesis must prepare a
short typewritten or printed abstract of his thesis. Two copies,
approved by the student's major professor, shall be filed with
the Director of the Graduate Division when the two bound copies
of the thesis are submitted.
Comprehensive Examination. The candidate must pass a comprehensive
examination in the fields of major and minor study,
and his thesis if a thesis is written. These examinations will be
given approximately one month prior to the expected date of
graduation. Admission to the examination is conditioned upon the
completion of the thesis. Arrangements for the examination may
be made through the Director of the Graduate Division.
Application for Degree. Each candidate must secure from
the office of the Registrar an Application for Degree Form. This
form must be completed and returned to the Registrar's Office
two months before the date the degree is to be conferred. The
student is responsible for completing this form at the proper time.
Conferring the Degree. Students are required to be present
at the convocation at which the degree is conferred.64
