PASSES AWAY TUES
Funeral sendees were held at
two oclock Thursday afternoon
for Mrs T S Jones Sr 82
yearold pioneer ladywho passed
away at her home here at ten
oclock Tuesday morning
Mrs Jones a semiinvalid for
the past several years was
stricken while sitting in a chair
and died in less than an hour
after the attack
Mrs Thomas Stanley Jones
nee Rosalie Leflet Whaley was
born in Madison county Virginia
on August 1 1869 She came to
Texas in 1890 and was 6ne of
the first teachers of the Mebeetie
school She returned to Virginia
for about three years returning
to Texas in 1896 to teach at Ellcr
Flats in Hemphill county
She was married on Juno 30
1898 to Thomas Stanley Jones
owner f the BarC ranch In this
county Mr Jones preceded her
in death twentyone years ago
Mrs Jones Is survived by two
daughters Mm Bruce Water
field and Mrs Frank Chambers
and by one son Thomas S Jones
Ur all of Canadian by six
grandchildren Jimmy and Dickie
Waterflcld Stanley Jones John
and Frances Chambers all of
Canadian a d Mrs Jack Osborne
of Amarlllo and by two great
grandchildren

Moody Hotel Being
Renovated Here
The Moody hotel is being com
pletely done over by the new
owners Mr and Mrs Carl
Freeman Every room In the
hotel is being redecorated and
refitted with new rugs drapes
spreads etc No expense is be
ing spared to create a real home-
like atmosphere
Mr and Mrs Freeman made
their home in the hotel for many
months and know from experi-
ence what travelers stopping
there desire in the way of com-
fort and service
Only four days remain before
absentee voting comes to a
close on the five amendments
to the constitution The deadline
is midnight Friday None have
been cast here so far The elec-
tion will be held next Tuesday

Golden Wedding
Anniversary Wed
More than seventyfive friends
and neighbors called at the
home ot Mr and Mrs S L
Dixon from two Until five oclock
Wednesday afternoon with gifts
and congratulations
The occasion was in honor of
the beloved couples fiftieth
wedding anniversary and every-
one had a lovely time
Mr and Mrs Dixon have llved
on their place seventeen miles
south ot Canadian since the
spring of 1926 They are about
as young a couple as one could
expect to find celebrating their
golden wedding anniversary
Mrs Dixon is only sixtyfive
years of age and Mr Dixon
seventy
Present also for the happy
occasion was their son M > rl
Dixon and wife and baby from
Oklahoma City their son Mar-
vin Dixon and wife from Borger
their daughter Mrs Ewell Steen
and her husband from Briscoe
and an old friend Mrs1 Terry
from Frlona
WEATHER
Canadian received its first
snow flakes of the year on Hal-
loween day with a nice snowfall
that night and the following
day All told It amounted to
two inches of snow and 18 of
an Inch of moisture
Last year the first snow flakes
fell here on December 5 with
the first real snow coming on
January 2 The first snowfall
the previous winter was on
Decernber 8
Snow fell here almost all day
yesterday
Carolyn and Katie Price who
were injured when their pickup
turned over September 22 have
been dismissed from the hospital
here Carolyn got to go home
Thursday and Katie was dis-
missed Sunday

Funeral services were held at

930 yesterday morning for
Edgar Lesley Condo with the Rev
Thomas A Gray officiating
Mr Condo a former resident
of this area passed away after a
weeks fllnsu in the hospital at
Wiggins CoYo He had made his
home at Wiggins for tho past
three years
The 69yearTold farmer was
born In Montlcello Indiana His
father W D Condo passed away
about 1904 He was also pre
ceded in death by one brother
Joe Condo of Pampa who died
about two years ago
Ha is survived by his mother
Mrs Alice Cole of Canadian by
his wife Mrs Sopha Stripe Cole
whose parents live at Shattuck
Okla by four children Sam of
Wiggins Lucille of the home and
by two married daughters Edna
who lives In Colorado and Ella
Mae who resides in Kansas and
by three grandchildren and seven
brothers Bill Condo and Sanford
Cole of Canadian Lloyd Cole of
Gem Ray Condo of Keota Okla
Fred Condo of Crawford Okla
Sam Condo of Rcydon Okla and

fatally injured In an automobile
accident in which two other

Mr Dunn was a nephew of

of Hlgglns and was well known
there having lived on a ranch
north of Hlgglns for several

minor surgery Wednesday on
her right arm which she had In
jured during basketball practice

The Clarendon team put up a
stiff fight but was playing with-
out one of Its regular halfbacks
Arils Mooring who had been
found to be ineligible under the
tensemester rule Although an
honest mistake resulting from a
mixup following a transfer the
team forfeited three conference
victories in District 1 of Class A
and can be considered out of the
running
The big game will be held
here Friday night when the
Wildcats tangle with the Lefors
Pirates The Pirates slaughtered
the White Deer eleven Friday
with a score of 52 to 0 or at a
better than a point a minute
pace They also unleashed a new
scoring threat in the person of
Jimmy Doom a converted end
who scored six touchdowns In
his first game as a fullback for
the Lefors team
School officials compliment the
Canadian fans on their behavior
at Ihe game with Clarendon and
caution everyone to be espec-
ially careful to abide by the
league regulations In the game
with Lefors Friday night
This will be a bitterlyfought
srame and fans are urged not to
let their emotions run away with
their better Judgement and boo
the referee or otherwise mis
behave as such conduct could
cause the Wildcats to be ruled
out of the conference

Relatives were called to the
bedside of Bruce Watcrfleld
Sunday night He has been a
hospital patient at Wichita Falls
since suffering a heart attack
at Childress on Sunday October

loss of blood but did not state
how the accident occurred There
was a bad head Injury and one
arm was cut off The Investiga-
tion Is being continued
A mechanic Rlckert was work-
ing for the Santa Feat Law-
rence Kans at the time of his
death
Burial was made In the
Wheeler cemetery Thursday
