DECLARATION OF LAYMEN.
We, the Laymen of the Central Texas Conference, wish to renew our allegi-
ance to the cause which has for its object the evangelization of the world in
this generation; and to hereby express our faith in the accomplishment of
this great work by the help of God.
We rejoice in the hope that the time is rapidly approaching when every
layman shall find a place for work in the church of our choice, and gladly
fill that place with earnest labor, and thereby grow into the full stature of
Christian manhood.
We regret that more has not been accomplished during the year now end-
ing, but are glad to report that the sum of about $ ......... has been collected
on our. Missionary Special, and we do not believe that this has interfered with
our regular collections; because wherever a charge has contributed to this
fund, it has paid in full all assessments made by the Conference.
In order that our watchword may still be "A Million and More for Missions
this Year," we hereby pledge ourselves, in co-operation with our pastors to
undertake to raise $10,000.00 special, during the ensuing year, for the evan-
gelization of foreigners in Texas, and for such other purposes as the General
and Conference Boards of Missions may direct; the same to be apportioned
among the Districts on the basis of the domestic mission assessment.
We recognize as binding upon us the command of God, that we pay to the
promotion of His cause on earth, the tenth of all He gives us, and we there-
fore pledge ourselves to use our best efforts to induce Twenty Thousand of
our church members to agree to tithe their incomes: being confident that
when all our people realize that they owe Him one-tenth of all He gives them,
then all assessments will be easily raised, His treasury be full, and He will
pour out upon us such blessings as we shall not be able to contain.
As a help in the work to which we set our hands, we make the following
request:
(1) That our Presiding Elders and Pastors, with the help and assistance
of the District Leaders, see to it that a leader is elected for each charge at
the first quarterly conference of the new year.
(2) That this Declaration be printed in the Conference Journal.
