SARAH A. LONG.
Sarah A. Long was born in Mississippi December 15, 1840. She was con-
ted in early life and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She
s first married in 1860 to J. C. Snead. who died in 1869. In 1872 she mar-
d Rev. A. Long. Her death took place June 28, 1904. Besides her husband
leaves two children-J. C. Snead of Erath county and the wife of Rev.
A. Clark of the Northwest Texas Conference.
Her husband said of her: "She was an every day christian and had a
id word for everybody. She was ready for her change and died in tri-
iph." Hers was truly the life of an uncomplaining, faithful itinerant, never
irmuring at any appointment the church saw fit to give her husband. Next
the grace of God the true wife of the itinerant preacher is to him his inspir-
on, the source of his greatest strength and his abiding comfort. More than
world can ever know or appreciate does the wife of the itinerant preacher
come the sharer of her husband's every burden, care, sorrow and responsi-
Lity, as well as the participant in his every triumph and joy. Does he
ar the burdens of his people upon his heart? So she likewise is bound in
r heart with them. Is he the priest making intercessory prayer for saints
id sinners? She likewise is the priestess. The true wife of the pastor is not
Le degree further removed in interest and sympathy from the interest of the
,ck than he. Her womanly heart makes her, very frequently, more deeply
id keenly appreciative of the varying experiences of the people than her
Lsband. Such a woman may not shine in social circles, but as one of the
wels of the Lord she shall shine as the stars forever.
Having been many times in the home of our deceased sister, we can truly
,y that such a wife as we have described was SarahA. Long, the wife of
ev. A. Long, a loved brother and superannuate of this Conference.35
