A. As attorney.
Q. I see. You have other clients with interests in the East Texas
wells ?
A. Yes, sir.
(This statement was contradicted by Commissioner Murray the same day when
he testified as follows:
Now, the statement I believe Mr. Harrington made, testified
that he was in my office at the time that a certain plugging
took place. That was the first, the only time I have ever talked
with Mr. Harrington about directional wells in East Texas, or
anywhere. He was quite angry at the attorney general for getting,
filing injunction suits to run surveys, and said that they were prepared
to fight dirty, and I told him that I had known many, many
years, that I didn't like to fight, I sure didn't like to fight dirty,
but if he were going to have to fight dirty, just count me on the
side of the attorney general. That is the only time I ever had
any discussion with him about any deviated holes. I told him
that I didn't see why he was mad, that if his holes were straight,
he shouldn't get upset because the attorney general had gotten an
injunction to keep him from interfering, and if it didn't matter,
it would all clear up.
Harrington was then questioned further:
Q. Well, you mean to say that you had three of your wells plugged
that were good producing wells and you haven't made any effort
to find out who or why, or the occasion?
A. That is right, Mr. Hale, I have not.
Q. How much production were you getting from these three wells?
A. Those four wells, about, around 1200 barrels a month.
Q. Well, you have suffered quite a loss from the plugging of
these wells, then?
A. I have suffered quite a loss in income, yes, sir.
Q. And you are telling the Committee that you had three of your
wells plugged with cement to your severe financial loss and
in the intervening time you have made no effort to find out
who did it, or why, or to see if you had a law suit to recover
your losses?
A. That is correct sir.
Later on Representative Hollowell, also finding it hard to believe, asked:
Q. When you were there in your office in Longview somebody called
you and told you that you had three oil wells plugged, that you
