Well, the Federal Petroleum Board couldn't let the Railroad
Commission know anything about our investigation. It
would go immediately to the operator, the illegal operator,
or the operator under investigation. We had to keep it as
quiet from the Railroad Commission agents as we did from
the operator himself.
He confirmed that he had knowledge of slanted wells being drilled in the East
Texas Field:
Q. ... Now, will you tell us whether or not in your capacity
as an investigator or as a member of or as chairman of the
Federal Petroleum Board you ever had any information or
