The Lambda Chi Alpha
fraternity started off the
fall of 2002 with a sus-
pension that will last
through May 2003 for vio-
lating the sections of the
student code of conduct.
The sections involve
hazing, intimidation, fur-
nishing false or mislead-
ing information, public
intoxication, violating
university policy and vio-
lating state, civil or crimi-
nal law.
Lambda Chi Alpha,
who was already on pro-
bation, will be the third
suspended social frater-
nity on campus since
April 2000. It follows the
suspension of Theta Chi
in April of 2000 and
Kappa Alpha Order in
February 2001.
This suspension and
the allegations of alcohol
consumption for six of
the 10 social fraternitiesa p p
on campus prompted the
Student Development of-
fice to create stricter
codes of conduct for so-
cial fraternities.

On March 5 at 12:00 pm,
students walked out of their
classes and faced the cold
to gather at the Campus
Green for a protest against
the War on Iraq. They also
protested the government's
cutting of educational funds
to support the war.
The event featured a DJ
and various speakers, in-
cluding an Iraqi woman who
spoke about the horrors of
war. The amount of stu-
dents who came out has
been estimated to be 100 or
more.
"[I liked] being able to
speak out against the war, I >
feel very sad about Iraq and
the innocent lives that will
be lost in this war," said
Dance sophomore
Tabrechai Washington, "It
was assurance for me that I
am not in this struggle for
peace alone."
Other students in support
of the war with Iraq gath-
ered near them chanting
pro-war slogans and bran-
dishing banners and signs
of their own.
The walkout ended
around 3:00 that afternoon.
