Before the first defensive play
for North Texas at the New Orleans
Bowl, Brandon Kennedy was ready.
The junior nose tackle moved
back and forth along the line of
scrimmage pumping his fists.
The rest of the team was ready
too. On the ensuing play, senior
defensive back Don McGee picked
off a pass.
The start was a complete rever-
sal of last season when NT dropped
behind 17-0 in the first half. In fact,
NT held a 17-7 lead at half-time
this season.
That led to four more intercep-
tions for NT.
Better yet for the Mean Green isbeat was Texas Tech by a score of
21-14 on Oct. 18, 1999.
"It's a great shot in the arm for
our University," head coach Darrell
Dickey said. "About eight years ago
we became Division I and a lot of
people said we didn't belong, but
we are becoming more and more so
like we do belong, because that was
a very good football team that we
beat tonight."
That should give NT more re-
spect from other teams around the
nation and, more importantly, re-
spect from recruits trying to decide
where to go to school.
