Note:

According to Sallie Reynolds Matthews, this house was built by Captain Newton C. Givens in 1856, when Camp Cooper was being constructed. The sashes, doors, etc., for the stone Ranch the fort were hauled from over three hundred miles from San Antonio. Matthews' family moved into the abandoned house in 1866. Watt Matthews restored it in 1986.
