The Senate investigating com-
mittee at Austin have already
secured sufficient evidence to
clearly establish that there was
much illegal issuing of poll tax
receipts in the amendment elec-
tion July 22 Some of the head-
men on the anti side have so far
refused to testify
The Jimplecute has received a
copy of The Times Canal Win-
chester Ohio from its friend and
reader C E Elsea who spent
some time here the past winter
and spring Mr Elsea has a let
ter in The Times in which he
writes of his trip to Northeast
Ohio which is very interesting
If the antis were not guilty of
fraud at the last election why
do they not stand investigation
or file expense accounts Their
leaders in all parts of the State
are refusing to answer questions
and few if any have filed ex
pense accounts and some have
left the State for a while Their
guilt is plainly evident by their
actions

splendid advertisement for the

Prof Augustus Meyer the
eminent Hoboken N J astrolo-
ger has issued his bulletin for
August in which fie prophesies
a great many calamities for the
month He says As an Ameri-
can astrologer I therefore wish
to atate that the hottest weather
in history or on record will oc
cur from the 13th to the 31st
instant On these dates great
thunderstorms also tornadoes
or cyclones if not earthquakes
and some of the most peculiar
atmospheric disturbances ev
witnessed will be much in evi
dence Prof Meyer also states
there will be calamaties of mag
nitude on land and sea and that
the mortality will be unusually
large especially among aged
people and children and he also
says look out for great fires and
great failures War clouds are
expected to gather in Europe
It is a prophesy freighted with
great danger for this month
W r
Leading Topics of the Day
To The Jimplecute The great
battle has been fought while the
pros lost yet they surely gained
for antis
a great victory many
claimed 100000 would be their
majority I do not see the pros
have any cause for weeping
You understand I am no politi
cian yet it appears to me the
most
importantmove for the dem-
ocratic party of Texas to day is
to get in line with the national
democratic party It must do
this by repudiating the doctrine
laid down by senator Bailey If
the Texas democracy does not
speak out the national democrat-
ic party will recognize Texas
democracy as wanting in the great
element of success harmony
It is up to the democracy of Tex-
as to either accept the principles
as laid down by the national par-
ty or the principles as taught by
senator Bailey One or the other
has to be done It must be open
repudiation of one or the other
Either the party as lead by Cul
berson
Johnson Crane and oth
er national leaders are wrong or
that senator Bailey is wrong
both
cannot be right Who has
the nerve to lead off in this put-
ting the party in Texas in strict
line with the national party
The following does not sound
good to those of the state who are
fighting for pure democracy
State Press gathers from that
enterprising contemporary the
Port Worth Eecord that senator
Joseph Weldon Bailey by joining
with such splendid patriots as
Heyburn Lodge Crane Lorimer
Cullom Root Oliver Gallinger
and other regular republicans
has againg saved the farmers of
the united states from ruin at the
hands of those malevolent sena-
tors known as Culberson Owen
Gore Davis Williams Bacon
Martin Kern Taylor and all the
other democrats in the two hous
es of congress When it comes
to saving the farmers senator
Bailey is probably the outsaving
ist savior as it and if he can at
the same time save a few meat
packersjflour millers Steele man-
ufacturers wool spinners lum
bers trusters and such like the
more he enjoys it But the sen
ators main hold we gather from
the Port Worth Record is sav
ing farmers He saves then evry
day Let him save the farmers
of a nation and let them save a
few kind friends in the infant
industry business and he care
not who writes the songs of the
nation anyway and by all means
let him save somebody from the
democraticparty which side the
Fort Worth Record is a veritable
gobbleum that hopes to crunch
the bones of farmers and is de
terred only by the giant form of
Hon Joe Bailey who standsspear
in hand and armor on between
the trembling agriculturist and
their scaly foe Galveston News
Such reading as the above
sounds out of placej when applied
to a democratic senator from
Texas
But for the vote of the demo-
cratic senator of Texas the far-
mers free list would have passed
the senate Now the question is-
is senator Bailey endowed with
more intellect than the rest of the
democrats in both branches of
congress Will any one admit
such a thing His vote surely
blocked the democratic party If
he can not vote with the party
why does he not leave it When
he or any one else tells you that
any tax put on either raw mate-
rial or manufactured goods is
not finally paid by the consumer
you are told something that is
not correct In the cost account
of every thing manufactured
every item of cost is added wheth-
er on raw material or not as
previously stated the democratic
party of Texas should get into
line and quit this going off after
strange gods Enough of this
By the way I have thought the
big dailies of the state possessed
great political power The late
prohibition election is proof that
the voters are independent of the
influence of the press Every-
one of them were against the
amendment the governor both
senators yet it only pulled thro
by a questionably majority of
some 6000 votes Some body is
loosing fluence
The Lieut governor wants the
pro democrats put out of the par
ty If he succeeds and then
could see his party he would
surely exclaim my god how it
has swunk I would like to
see the test made Should the
Hon Tom Ball shie his guberna
torial castor into the political
ring next year something unusual
is going to happen This will
not be a fair testfor a great many
antis will support him
Thought we were to have polit-
ical rest Evidently there is
something doing all the time
This political rest was only a bait
given to the credulous Not in-
tended seriously W T A

WHICH SCHOOL
When a young man or woman
decides on a business colleg ed-
ucation they are as a rule old
enough to appreciate the
irapor
tance of selecting that school
giving them the most thorough
instructionor straining in the
shortest time consistent with the
adequate qualification for the
performance of the work deman-
ded by the business world
The average business college
graduate is not qualified to hold
a first class position on leaving
school and almost every com-
munity has more than one of this
class who have failed to make
good
There are two important rea
sons for failure to make good
firstthe average boy and girl are
deficierit in English and Mathe-
matics in Stenography correct
spelling is absolutely necessary
the same is true of punctuation
for the division into sentences
clauses and phrases without
this no stenographer can hold a
first class position In book-
keeping one must be quick and
correct in figures
The majority of business
schools teach the student short-
hand the use of the typewriter
and to keep a set of books if
the student is up on English
and Arithmetic he will most
likely make good but if defic-
ient his chances are poor indeed
The Marshall Business Col
lege has a literary department
consisting of a department of
languages and another for busi
ness arithmetic experienced
teachers are in charge of this
work and all students who need
it are given the benefit of this
literary department without ex-
tra cost to them this course is
shorn of all superfluities
At this school each student is
studied individually and his de
fects corrected in this way effi
cient graduates are made on
leaving school they are able to
hold a position and give satis-
faction
The commercial course as
taught in this school is complete
in every detail students at this
college get more for their money
than at any other school open
day and night day students can
take advantage of the night work
if they want it
If you want to become a Book-
keeper Stenographer Telegra-
pher or Ry Office man we can
make you one and guarantee you
to be competent to hold a posi-

Why Not Keep Your Farm Clean
Lets get together and make
the South a land of clean farms
Labor will never be cheaper than
at present so lets start now
and have good clean fields to
work in when labor gets to be
double the price we have to pay
today A small flock of sheep
will be found to be worth their
keep and more just as weed
killers They get into the fence
corners and way places and call
all manner of plants good that
we with our limited experience
at the end of a hoe nandle do
nof consider good at all And a
weed tastes so much better in
the form of lamb than it does
fust as plain weed Get a little
flock of sheep and then when
the farmers get to looking after
their own business a little more
closely we will try and see if we
we can not prevail upon our pol-
iticians to allow a dog law to be
passed in each State for the pro-
tection of the sheep and the in-
creasing of the school fund
The time is surely coming
when our country will produce
millions of dollars worth of wool
and millions less of weeds and
greatcoon dogs Keep eyes
open and see if what I am telling
you dont come to pass A L

Just Why They Want Wiley Fired
Of course nobody really be-
lieves that the flimsy excuse al-
leged in the charges agamst Dr
Wiley is the real reason why cer-
tain officials of the Department
Agriculture backed by Attor-
ney General Wickersham are
seeking to drive the great pure
food apostle from the public ser-
vice It is idle to pretend that
mere technical violation of the
statute that served to save 2000
a year has outraged these offi
cials to such an extent that they
feel constrained to clamor in
chorus for the dismissal of the
man who stretched the statue to
the good purpose
Of course thats not the reason
These are the reasons
Wiley has been a militant gov-
ernment chemist for twenty
eight years
Wiley was the author of the
pure food law
Wiley established the celebra-
ted poison squad
Wiley fought the bleached
flour interest
Wiley started the fight against
the use of benzoate of soda and
sulphur as fruit preservatives
Wiley secured the removal of
the tax on denatured alcohol
Wiley exposed frauds without
number in drugs in patent med
cines poisonous and otherwise
and Wiley it was who started the
war on the use of narcotics and
other poisons in soda fountain
drinks
Wiley fought the whisky trust
These are the real reasons
why certain folks want the ex-
ceedingly active Dr Wiley kicked
out of the Department of Agri-
culture
It couldnt be clearer if it were
blazoned so that he who runs
might read
Dr Wileys activities are per
nacious activities from the stand-
point of the big interests that
have suffered because of his re
lentless war against fraud in
food and drugs
Those interests passed the
word along that Wiley must go
And the faithful department
parrots repeated the word

there are scores of paint at that

If 225 is the price of a gallon
of honest paint you may be quite
sure there are scores of paints
at all prices from that down
with paint enough in them to
pass for paint And what are
you going to do about it
It takes 2 toi 4 a gallon to
pay the painter for doing his

Obituary
Marvin Conway ORear son of
J M and Octrva ORear was
born April 2nd 1903 died July
26th 1911 aged 8 years 3 months
and 24 days
The sad death of this bright
little fellow was indeed a terrible
blow to his parents relatives and
their host of friends coming as
it did in such a sudden and un-
looked for manner as to nearly
break the hearts of those nearest
and dearest to him
Conway was a most precocious
little boy for his age and was of
a bright cheerful disposition
bringing sunshine and smiles to
those he came in contact with
His was a loveable nature and his
disposition was to be manly and
imitate his elders in ajl good
things and seemingly to abhor
those things which his intelligent
mind did not conceive to be
right Often in his playful
moods he was seen in deep study
as if pondering some momentous
problem and as quickly his
bright little face would beam and
a query to mama or papa would
be the result of his deep medita-
tion
Dear little fellow He was the
pride and comfort of his parents
the playmate of his grandfater
and uncles and a child whom all
instinctively loved
His death occurred at Texar
kana by the accidental discharge
of a gun which had in some way
been left within his reach He
never regained consciousness
but died within two hours after
the accident
The bereaved parents and rela
tives are referred for comfort
to that passage of the Scripure
which says He knoweth and
doeth all things well Little
Conway is with the shining hosts
where no sorrow ever comes

Make Them Pay For It
The man who is making a suc-
cess of the fianacial end of his
newspaper is doing so beause he
is applying strict modern meth-
ods in the conduct of his busi-
ness He is applying the same
policy in sellin r his space as the
merchant does in selling his
goods The festive gent who is
continually looking for free
boosts for some money making
enterprise is being firmly and
consistently sat upon
Every line in a newspaper
costs the proprietor something
If it is for the benefit of the in
dividual it should be paid for
If the grocer was asked to con
tribute groceries to one abun-
dantly able to pay for fhem he
would refuse The proprietor
of a newspaper must pay for the
free advertising if beneficiary
does not and yet it is one of the
hardest things to be learned by
many that a newspaper has
space in its columns for rent
and must renftt to live To give-
away rent for anything less than
living rates is as to a newspaper
as for a landlord to furnish free
rent Publishers Auxilliary
