PANAMA SITUATION
President and Cabinet Considered
the Situation

time since last June all tho members
of the cabinet were present today at a
formal meeting It wa9 after 11
oclock when the members assembled
at the executive office and about 1210
when they adjourned The Panama
situation was practically the sole topic
of discussion While Secretary Hay
had little in the form of lato develop-
ments to present the situation with
respect to the revolution out of which
has grown the republic of Panama
was considered thoroughly Tho sit-
uation so far as American interests on
the isthmus are concerned is regarded
to bo in excellent shape
Tho status of M Philippe Buneau
Varilla tho representative in this
country of tho republic of Panama
was considered but no statement con-
cerning tho matter was made at the
conclusion of tho meeting If no
change in the presont situation should
occur it is not regarded as likely that
any additional naval force will be or-
dered to the isthmus Certainly no
land forces would bo ordered to Pan-
ama unless tho revolution should take
a serious turn
