Robert Gresham
Passes Away Thurs
Robert Gresham 73 who has
been a Bartlett resident for ten
years or more but about whom
little is known passed away here
sometime during the ought Wed-
nesday. Mr. Gresham had lived alone
in a small building adjojiriing
the Freeman Tourist Camp for
the past four years. He was
found dead Thursday morning
by L. Freeman who knew the
man had been ill and called to
see him. Justice of -the Peace
M. B. Colbert .stated Thursday
after examining the body that
his verdict would be death from
natural causes probably heart
.trouble.
Mr. Freeman stated that he
had talked with Mr. Gresham
Wednesday evening and-'Kad
gone with him to a doctor a-f ev
days before. ft -
Mr. Gresham seldom talked of
Wmself and little is lnown of
him or his relatives. It & known

Carl Manning Seeks
Election As Sheriff
Carl Manning of Killeen can-
didate for sheriff of Bell County
was in Bartlett Tuesday in the
interest of his campaign. His
name appears this week in the
political announcement column
of the Tribune.
Mr. Manning is -making an
active campaign for the office
and states that he will imake "an
effort to present his candidacy
to every voter and citizen of the
county and promises if elected
that he will be sheriff for all the
people with fair play and just
treatment for everyone.
"In offering "for this import-
ant office I do so fully aware of
the duties of the office and its
responsibilities" states Mr. Man-
ning "and I feel that I am qual-
ified to serve the people of Bell
County as sheriff."
QUARTERLY CONFERENCES
TO BE HELD AT METHODIST
CHURCH SUN. MORNING
The third quarterly conference
of the Methodist Church will be
held at the morning hour with
Dr. John N. Rentfro presiding
elder of the Georgetown District
presiding Eev. Claude P. Jones
pastor stated Thursday.
Unified services of the Sun-
day School and morning worship
beginning at 10 o'clock and clos-
ing at 11:30 will continue
through the summer months.
All conference reports will be
written.
Sunday evening the Methodist
congregation' will join the Pres-
byterian and Central Christian
Churches in union services on
the lawn at the Presbyterian
Church Rev. Jones states.

HONORED ON BIRTHDAY
Lynn Bartlett honored his
wife on her birthday Saturday
with a barbecue. About thirty
five guests were present to en-
joy the occasion.

The City of Bartlett is contemplating buying
the sewer system from the Bartlett Sewer Co.
and extending same to those parts of the city
that are not being served by the system. The
city would like to lenow how many people
would connect if the lines reached their
property; therefore please fill out the questions
below and mail or hand to R. W. Miller
Mayor as soon as possible.

Bell Candidates
To Appear At Killeen
Thursday July 14
The Killeen Chamber of Com-
merce is staging a Bell County
Political Rally on Thursday
night July 14th at 8 o'clock at
the American Legion Park in
Killeen. A loud speaker will be
furnished free and no charges
of any kind will be made to
candidates or to the public.
Plenty of good seats are prom-
ised in the grand stand and the
entire field will be flooded with
lights.
Will Sutton president of the
Killeen Chamber of Commerce
states: "We are expecting a
great crowd. We want the people
all over this section to attend
the big Bell County Political ral-
ly. If you want to get the real
lew dowr on all the candidates
come to Killeen Thursday night

exhibits in the fair this year

united in marriage June 17 at
the parsonage of the First
Methodist Church in Henryetta
Okla. Only members of the fam-
ily and a few intimate friends
attended the ceremony.
The bride wore a chartreuse
green irocic oi chillon with
white gardenias.
Immediately after the cere
mony a reception was held at the
home of the brides aunt Mrs.
Charles Wilson Jr. White carna
tions were used to adorn the
bride's table. During the recep
tion the couple left for Tulsa
Okmulgee Lake and Dallas.

and Mrs. A. K. Wheeler Sir The

bestowed upon me in the past
and have tried at all times to
discharge my duties of the
County Clerk's office efficiently

vitally touches all the people.
There are kept all records relat-
ing to land titles such as deeds
and mortgages; all records of
marriages; all probate records
having to do with the estates of
deceased persops insane persons
and minors; all vital statistics
including both births and deaths ;
all records of suits filed and dis-
posed of in the County Court as
well a.s ;numerops .others. Also

clerk of the Commissioners
Court keeping the minutes of
all their meetings and signing
all warrents and other instru-
ments essential to handling the
County's fiscal affairs. Where-
fore it follows that my experi-
ence in the office and my fam-
iliarity with its duties equip
me to render even better service
in the future.
I intend to conduct an active
campaign and to see as many of
you as possible in order that I
may personally thank you for
your great kindness to me in the
past and to solicit your vote and
influence in the July Democratic
Primary.

Democratic executive committee
has announced that there will
be a political rally held in Bart-'
lett Thursday evening July 7th
at 8 p. m.
These meetings are being held
in every voting precinct in the
county and are sponsored by the
county executive committee.
The Bartlett rally will be stag-
ed on the lawn back of the city
hall. The Wednesday Club band
platform will form the speakers
platform. '
The committee will furnish a
loud speaker for this occasion
reid every candidate for countv
and precinct office will be given
an opportunity to tell you why
he should be elected to the office
to which he aspires. Every vot-
er is urged to attend and hear
the various candidates.
Scliwertner Picnic
Has Two-Day Session
Schwertner's Bi-ennial Picnic
closed its two day session! Wed-
nesday evening. Large crowds
were present both days to hear
the political speaking and to en-
joy the entertainment features
of the. picnic.
County and precinct candi-
dates and several state candi-
dates appeared on the speaking v.
programs both afternoons.
Dances preceeded by 'an old-
fashioned square- dance were
held both evenings. Carnival
attractions added to the enter-
tainment features both days.
Schwertner's Bi-ennial Picnic
held each political year has at-
tracted large crowds for a num-
ber of years and is known as
one of the entertainment feat-
ures of campaign year over most
of Central Texas.
Clyde H. Mitchell
Dies In Lewisville
Funeral services were con-
ducted in Lewisville Thursday
June 23 for Clyde H. Mitchell
37 of that city who died late
Wednesday evening. Mr. Mit-

Crawford Heath of Lewisville.
The funeral was conducted at
the First Presbyterian -Church- l

terment at the Old Hall Ceme-
tary. Mrs. Mitchell's Sunday-
School Class had charge of the

chell was a member of the Pres
byterian Church and truly a
christian character. At the

Mr. Mitchell was the son-in-

tended the funeral.
