Explain State Soil
Conservation Law
SEEKING RE-ELECTION
Farmers from all over Cen
fcral Texas crowded the city hall
Saturday night to hear Caesar
(Dutch) Hohn extension ser-
vice specialist in soil and water
(conservationt explain the state
.-soil conservation law and haw it
.affects farmers.
Hohn pointed out that the
-districts when formed have no
authority to vote new taxes to
issue bonds or form debts or any
land. The district law. he said
Ms merefv an enabling act which
.gives farmers the opportunity
to band together in a political
subdivision to fight soil erosion.
"I would like to remind you
that these fellows who are help-
ing in the organization of the
district and in holding the el-
tections ai'e serving free of
.charge. The reason .Kiey are
serving free of charge is be-
cause your legislature provided
that the elections had to be held
under the standard Texas law
"but failed to provide funds to
hold the elections.
"We believe that it is a good
thing these men are serving free
of charge because if adminis
trative costs of the districts are
kept low there is a better chance
to obtain state and federal aid
for- conservation work later on.
"These meetings are being
held to bring you the truth
about the soil conservation dis-
trict nrocrram. What you hear
ViorA nnrl ni. other -meetines call-
fljtff ed by the extension service and
vocational teachers is the trutn.

"To The
County:
"I take this means of an-
nouncing my candidacy for
Sheriff of Bell County subject
to the Democratic primaries to
be held this year.
"In seeking this office it is
my intention and desire to ask
the voters of Bell County to con
sider my candidacv from the
standpoint of my qualifications
and reputation for fair dealing
among my fellow men in the
past together with my promise
that when elected I will conduct
the office on the same fair ba-
sis that I have heretofore con-
ducted my own private business
affairs. "
"I am 50 years of age and am
married and have two sons all
of whom reside in Bell County.
I am a member of the Methodist
Church. For the past 10 years I
have been engaged in the cattle
and wholesale meat business in
this county in which business I
have made many acquaintances
and friends throughout the
county. I have been in the cattle
business practically all of my
'life.
"I have never sought a public
office before ; but it is my firm
conviction that a public office
should be filled and conducted
on the same high plane and bus
iness-like basis that is so es-
sentially necessary for the suc
cessful operation of any private
business.
"In announcing for sheriff it
is with the full realization that
the office I seek is one of the
most important in .the county
and that it carries with it many
responsibilities and the faith
and trust of the people. When
I am elected I will preserve the
importance of the office and
will recognize its responsibilities
and will faithfully carry out the
thrust imposed in me by the peo-
iple. "I will enforce the laws to the
best of my ability. It will be my
purpose to give everyone a
square deal with fair play and
equal treatment to all.
"During the coming months
before the election it is my de-
sire and purpose to see every
voter in the county in behalf of
my candidacy; and when I am
elected I wil .strive to make the
people one ofhe be3t sheriffs
they have ever' had.
"Your vote and influence will
be greatly appreciated.
