which wc extract the following :
From Galignan? Mcssinger.
DEATH OF THE DUKE OF ORLEANS.
The details of the calamity arc as follows: Yes
terday (July 13 at 12 o'clock the Duke of Orleans
was to leave Pans fot St. Omcr where he was to
inspect several refitments intended for the corps o1
operation on the Moine. His equipages were order
ed and his attendants in readiness. Every prepara
tion was made at the Pavilion JHarsan lor the jour-
ney after which his royal Highness was to join the
Duchess of Orleans at Plombieres. At 1 1 the Prince
got into a carriage intending to go to Neuilly to take
leave of the -King and Queen and the Royal family.
This carriage was a four-wheeled cabrioIctorcaleche
drawn by two horses a la Daumont. that is driven
by a postillion It was the conveyance usually la-
-ien bythe Prince when goinff short distances round
Paris. He was quite alone not having suffered one
of his officers to accompany him. On arriving neat
the Porte Maillot the horse rode bythe postillion took
right and broke into a gallop. The carriage was
toon taken with great velocity up the Chemin de la
Jtevobc. The Prince seeing that the postillion was
usable to master the horses put his foot on the step
which is very near the ground and jumped down on
the road. V.hen halfway along the road which runs
direct from the Porte Maillot. The Prince touched
the road with both feet but the impulse was so great
-that he staggered and frll with his head on the pave-
Wnent. The effect of the fat.1 was terrible for his Roy-
al Highness remained senseless on the spot. Persons
instantly ran to his assistance anil carried him into a
grocer's by the way side a short distance off oppo-
site Lord Seymour's stable-!.
In the meantime the postillion succeeded in getting
command over his hotses turned the carriage rotind.
and came-to the door ot the house where the rnnce
was lying. His Royal Highness never rrcovereo'
his senses. He was placed on a bed in a room on
the ground floor nnJ surgical assistance sent for.
He died in a short time afterwards.
GRE AT. BRITAIN.
The accounts fiom the manufacturing districts con-
tinue to be of the mostalarmingand fearful character.
The distressand starvation that exists in every part of
the country is appalling in the extreme; and without
.some improvement in trade speedily lakes place it is
difficult to siy what will be the result of the move-
ments which ate everywhere taking place. In Staf-
fordshire and other districts of the Potteries the coll
iers are going about in bands demanding contributions
lromthe tradesmen ; and unless they shortly return to
their labors the potters will be thrown out of work by
want of coal. Yeomanry :ind troonsare pouring in
to New-Castle upon-Lyne and the adjoining places
nnd serious collisirnsaie hourly expected though as
yet it does not appear that any serious disturbances
Iiaveoccured. In .Manchester Leeds and Stockport
the excitement is immense and some idea of the state
of things in the first named place may be formed from
the fact that the following resolution has been adopted
atameeting of the Anti-Corn Law Association held
at that place:
lThat believing this country to be on the eve of a
revolution and being utterly without hope that the
legist aturcvill accord justice to the starving mill-
ions a requisition be forthwith prepared signed and
forwarded to the members of this borough calling
upon them (tn conjunction with other Liberal mem
bcrs.) to offer every opposition and impediment tothe
-taxation of a prostrate people for the purpose ot a
bread-taxinir aristocracy that the wheels of govern
ment may be at once arrested through the rejection or
prevention ot votes ot supply.
Public meetings have been held at Leeds Liver
pool and a variety of-other places at which the
speakers indulged in a strain of language of the most
dangerous and revolutionary character in stock'
r- pott it is stated that the amount paid in wages has
been reduced 8.000 per week; and Irom H to 1UUUU
persons hare been deprived ot work.
