Refusal of the State Highway
Commission to consider bringing
the Schwertner - Bartlett farm-to-market
road through town on
any street other than Clark
Street was made known in Bart
lett Monday following a visit
here by State Engineer Dewitt
Greer.
The existing water problem on
the only through street south of
Clark street and the maintenance
problem of culverts at home
entrances along the street were
given as the reasons for refusal.
'mere was one condition on
which another street would be
considered Mr. Greer stated.
That was that the city put in
curbs and storm sewers to
handle thij water along the qntire
length of the street. This Mayor
Mooreexplains''is impossible for
tne city as tho expense to both
the city and to property owner.)
would be prohibitive running
several times the cost of the road
building.
Tho city had hoped to secure
designation of the street twe
blocks south of Clark street as
the route for the road in order
to releive the traffic situation on
Clark street which is narrow.
