Astroworld '70
Begins Daily
Operations
Houston ASTROWORLD
well into its third season of
making people happy is pre-
wiring for its busiest summer
schedule yet. Based on week
end attendance. General Man-
ager Gene Patrick predicted
ASTROWORLD '70 would host
more than one million visitors
. . . a new attendance record.
"Our new rides bands and
Crystal Palace show have real-
ly caught on and are extremely
popular" said Patrick. The
Koolist Barrel O' Fun has
quickly become one of the most
popular rides in the park. And
the mounting interest in the
giant "Swamp Buggy" tree and
the "Wacky Shack" rising
from the new FUN ISLAND
promises that this new section
of the park will soon be a fa-
vorite of all guests.
FUN ISLAND opened to the
public May 30 when ASTRO-
WORLD '70 began its daily
summer schedule.
Summer hours are: Daily -10
a. m. to 11 p. m.; Saturdays
-10 a. m. to midnight.
Prices remain $4.50 for
adults $3.50 for kids.
Mrs. T. E. Plemmons
Keeps Night Class
iGoing At T.LC.
Temple Night classes at
Temple Junior College go from
7 to 10 p. m. but they simply
couldn't go at all without that
coffee break in the middle.
Most of the students are
adult and many of them drive
from such distances as Bartlett
Rockdale Gatesville and Ca-
meron to attend the once-a-week
sessions. They get to
know each other pretty well
and they also get to know Mrs.
r. u. Plemmons who serves
up the coffee.
Mrs. Plemmons who has
been a part of the college
community since 1959 "goes to
class" every evening to put on
the coffee for the evening stu-
dents. There are rolls and soft
drinks and hot chocolate and
other goods at the snack bar
m the Arnold Student Center
which she also has ready for
the mid-evening invasion.
This i.iu Ijogii n wGok of fi-
na examinations so Mrs. I
Plemmons made the coffee!
.brfk.s something special. She

"yye have a topnptch facul-
ty at night school" said Doug-
las Merrill director of the
evening division "but Mrs
Plemmons is the one who ron'.
Ty puts extra life into night
classes."
Credit Union Open
To Local Residents
In January 1970 a federally
chartered credit union opened
its doors at 20 Gym Streel- in
Taylor. Membershin in u
United Counties Federal Cred't
Union (UCFCU) is opnp o
everyone who lives or works in
Williamson or Burnet Counties
'or' anywhere in Bartlett.
Members of credit unions
save together and loan each
other money. To become a mem-'
i ber a person must pay a 25c
I joining fee (50c for joint mem-'
berships) and then save a $5.00
share. When one has saved
$5.00 many services become
available to him such as loans
at 1 per cent per month on un-
paid balance loan protection in-
surance (which pays off a debt
if the borrower dies) life sav-
ings insurance dividends and
financial counseling. Credit un-
ions have been found of special
benefit to low income persons
who cannot obtain bank loans
or afford to pay carrying charg-
es. "The purpose" as put by
president Mrs. Mattie Mae
Moore "is to promote thrift
j among members by affording
' them an opportunity to accum-
ulate their savings and by
' creating for them a source of
credit for provident or product
Jive purposes."
' For further information Bart-
less residents may contact Rich-
ard or Betty Willson at 527-
3822 or stop by the UCF Credit
Union office in Taylor any time
from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday thru
