Dies In Temple
Funeral services for Wcldon
Parks Pitts 61 of Temple
father of Ronnie Pitts of Bart
lett were conducted at 4 p. m.
Thursday at Harper-Talasek
Funeral Home the Rev. George
Brown officiating. Burial was in
Belhyood Memorial Park.
Mr. Pitts died early Wednes-
day morning in a Temple hospi-
tal after a week's iilness.
v Mr. Pitts was a partner and
ro-owne'r of the- Veterans Cafe
and had been in the restaurant
business 30 years.
He was born in Ben Hur the
son of John C. and Lou Ella Pit
ts. He was married to Miss Cor-
ene B. Sharp of Temple Dec. 24
Funeral Home in Taylor with
Bro. Dan Marek officiating.
Burial was in the Brethren Cem-
etery in Granger.
Mr. Wentrcek died early Fri-
day morning at his home follow
ing a long illness.

Bartlett Parent-Teachers Or-
ganization holds its first meet-
ing of the 1973-74 school year
Tuesday Sept. 18th in the high
school cafeteria.
Supt. R. E. Dwight will dis
cuss the present scnooi situa-
tion and Mrs Shirley Jnnke will
briefly explain the Vocational
Office Education program she
teaches. The program is a joint
venture between Bartlett and
Granger.
Refreshments will be served
following the meeting.
Garden Club
Begins New Year
Members of the Cornelia Wil-
son Garden Club met Monday
afternoon in the home of Mrs.
C. F. Hill for their first meet-
ing of the new club year. Co-
hostess was Mrs. Emil Dubec.
Mrs. Victor Marek president.

Members present repeated the
garden prayer.
Roll call was responded to by
members giving plants that
complement one another.
The program for the day was
given by members from the Kil-
leeii Garden Club "Seed and
Weed" on Christmas Flower
ShoWs. 'Slides' were shown by
Mrs. Yuonne Heiner with com-
ments from Mrs. Sue Wortham
both of Killeen. The slides con-
sisted of arrangements of vari
ous categories which may be
transformed into arrangements

$40 at their car wash last Sat-
urday at the Methodist Church'
parking lot. Some 25 cars were
washed during the day.

each Monday night at 7 p.m.

spent the week-end with his
parents Mr. and Mrs. Edmund

Emil F. Jnrolik 51 of Holl-
and brother of local residents
died at his home Monday about
4 p.m. of an apparent heart at-
tack. Funeral services were con-
ducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
the SS. Cyril and Methodius
Catholic Church in Granger
Father George Tydlacka offic-
iating. Entombment was in tho
Holy Cross Memorial Mosoleum
in Granger.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Tuesday at tho Goodnight Fu
neral Home in Bartlett.
Mr. Jarolik was born in Bart
lett and resided in the Bartlett-
Holland area all of his life.
He was a member of the Ca-
tholic Church and a Navy Vet-
eran of WW II. He was employ-
ed by the Veterans Hospital in
Temple for tho past 28 years.
Survivors include his mother
Mrs. Frances Pavlik of Holland;
two brothers Adolph Jarolik of
Holland and Joe S. Jarolik of
Dallas; four sisters Mrs. Char-
les (Judy) Sirney Sr. of Tem-
ple Mrs. Otto (Adella) Horelica
of San Antonio Mrs. Johnnie
(Angie) Pospisil and Mrs. Ed-
mund (Tillie) Barabas both of
Bartlett; six nieces and three
nephews.

Pavlat and Clinton Seward.

Foreign Wars American Legion
Post 133 the Elks Lodge and

in the U. S. Army during World
War II.

lett and Kenneth Jarosz of Ir-

According to Coach Robert
Campbell the Lorena boys are
big and strong. They have five
boys over 200 pounds. Their
quarterback is 6'4" and weighs
170 pounds.
Their best running back is
Mike Strahan. Lorena runs a
multiple offense and n split six
defense.
Coach Campbell says the Bull-
dogs arc in good shape for this
week's game.

building which is becoming un
insurable and is a liability to-
the district rather than an asset.
After examining tho cost of
the present operation of the
lunchrooms and due to the ris-
ing cost of foods tho board
members voted to raise the cost
of lunches in the local schools
effective October 1st. Lunches
in the primary school will bo
raised from 35 cents to 45 cents
and in high school from 40 cents
to 55 cents. Monthly tickets
will still be sold at a 5 cent per
meal discount provided they arc
used only on consecutive days
and not just every so often.
Board members authorized
Supt. Dwight to see about hav
ing the utility lines rerouted to
the ag building and to tho foot
ball field.
Securing of storage for school
supplies and items at a reason-
able cost somewhere in the com
munity was also authorized by
the board. Tho district will re-
move all usable materials which
are easily secured and will sell
items which they think will not
be usable in the future.
Board members signed a con
tract with the Central Confer-
ence of the First United Meth-
odist Church for the use of por-
table buildings for the local
school district. At the present
time it is not known how many
buildings the district will be
able to get.
Board members took under
consideration a request to con-
duct GED classes for school
drop outs in the Bartlett Com-
munity. After considering the
responsibility now assigned to
the local teaching staff and tho
financial needs o f education

the operation of GED schools
being operated at the present
time in Taylor and Temple and
the fact that those wishing or
having intentions to pursue
their diplomas may do so at
these two facilities.
Reduced expenditures in tha
areas of school supplies where
drastic cuts have been made due
to the loss of federal funds
was again reviewed by the board
members. It was pointed out by
board members that the school
was expected to operate within
this reduced budgeting this
school year. Programs affected
in this area include: vocational
band classroom teacher and
other specific subject areas.
Bills were paid and the meet-
ing adjourned.
