No man Is stronger than his fitomach
Let tho greatest athleto have dyspepsia
and his muscles would soon fall Phys-
ical strength Is derived from food If
a man has Insiifllclcnt food ho loses
strength If ho has no food ho dies
Vixxl Is converted Into nutrition through
the stomach and bowels It depends on
tho strength of tho stomach to what
extent food eaten Is digested and assimil-
ated People can dlo of starvation who
have abundant food to cat when tho
stomach and Its assoclato organs of di-
gestion and nutrition do not perform
their duty Thus tho stomach Is really
Mio vital organ of tho body If tho
Jtomach Is weak tho body will bo weak
Also bccatiso It Is upon tho stomach the
body relies for Its strength And as tho
body considered as a whole Is tnado up of
Its several members and organs so tho
weakness of tho body ns a conscouonco
of weak stomach will bo distributed
among the organs which composo tho
body If tho body Is weak becuuso It Is
Illnourished that physical weakness will
Ira found In back and knees In hands and
feet equally So also will tho weakness
be equally distributed among tho organs
heart llcr kldnojs otc being propor-
tionately ucak according to tho amount
of tho reduction of their dally ration of
nutrition

A Good Word for Jefferson
In writing to his home paper
The Bowie County News New
Boston Texas M H Custer edi
tor under date of Oct 10th Wait
B Peters manager at Jefferson
Cotton Oil Refining Cos Gin say
the following about Jeffersonwhich
we give
I presume business is dull over at
New Boston It is awfully dull here
compared with former years Cotton
and corn crops are cut short but not-
withstanding Jefferson has been look-
ing up in tho Improvement line this
year About eight new bricks have gone
up tho light plant which burned last
Bpring is being rebuilt and the water-
works system is completed being as
perfect and uptodate as any system
in the state
The current repoit that Jeflerson is a-
back number is a miBtkake ob I have
found the peoplo as enterprising here
as anywhere I believo a better day is
in sight for Jefferson From what1
have seen and heard from old settlers I
am sure it was once one of the leading
business points of the state The out-
look at present is bright for navigation
as Congressman Sheppard has been
looking into the situation and is taking
much interest in the matter Everybody
believes the next congress will make an
appropriation for this purpose and if so
Jefferson will move right up to the front
again Then you people can come-
down and make a trip direct to New
Orleans from Jefferson by water
The foregoing are a few facts I have
taken in since coming here-
In Memorium
Departed this life Oct 11th 05
Henry Chatman a worthy colored
man was laid to reBt in old Pleas-
ant Grove cemetery in the forest
near the once famous city of Hard-
scrabble We have known Henry
every since the fall of Vicksburg
nnd have eer found him true as
the needle to the pole As a slave
he was the property of William
Morris deceased and ever devoted
to his master and mistress nnd
their offspring Henry had filled
up the scriptural measure of his
days three score and ten years
and leaves behind him a record
worthy of immitation and one
sister to mour bis departure De-
ceased was a house carpenter and
farmer combined and like old
uncle Ned who laid down his fid
die and bow Henry turned loose
his plow and hoe and doubtless
has gone where all the good nig
gers go
And while I pen these lines am
wont to say of him he is basking
in yon sunbright clime where
persimmons are always ripe and
possums were never to got poor or
untoothsom Good by Henry the
pipers son aint you glad your
life works is done Peace to your
ashes joy to your soul
