The following requirements are minimum requirements for admission to the biology
honors program: (1) completion of 60 hrs. of college credit, (2) completion of 16 hrs. of
biology including Biol. 1401, 1402, and 1403, (3) an overall and biology g.p.a. of 3.25, (4)
eligible for membership in Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society.
Students will make application to the chairman of the Biology Department and be
approved by the biology facutly for admission into the Biology Honors Program. A g.p.a.
of 3.25 in biology must be maintained for final recognition of the student for Biology
Department Honors.
Program requirements are 7 hours of Biology Honors courses: 4 hrs. of Bio. 4X6H and
3 hrs. of 4X7H. AIS courses with biology credit may be used in lieu of 3 hrs. of the Biol.
4X6H requirement.
4X6H. BIOLOGY HONORS TUTORIAL (1-3 hrs.)
This course provides opportunities for investigations related to an upper level
biology course (with concurrent enrollment) or as a separate independent
study. This course may be repeated.
4X7H. BIOLOGY HONORS RESEARCH
This course will provide an opportunity for a student to pursue a research
topic under the direction of a biology faculty member, resulting in a final
presentation to an appropriate audience.
REQUIREMENTS FOR B.S. DEGREE
IN NATURAL SCIENCE
This program is based on a broad divisional major in the sciences and is intended for
those students who plan a career in one of the interdisciplinary areas of science, such as
medicine, dentistry, paramedical services, meteorology, oceanography, health, physics,
environmental science, etc. No minor is required. Requirements for the major, in addition
to B.S. degree Core Curriculum requirements, are as follows:
Mathematics, including 6 hours of Calculus (EA1) .....................................9 hrs.

Biology 1401, Biology 1402 or 1403
Chemistry 1410, 1420
Geology 1410 plus 4 additional advanced hours
Physics 1410, 1420
