(Atlas) Holt, and their two children, Kilee, a
daughter, and Raymond Killis, a son, live on
the home place carrying on the tradition of
farming and ranching.
Keith Dwayne Holt (1949-) and wife,
Andrea (Gatlin) Holt, and daughter, Keitha
Ann, live near Aquilla. He works for Entech
Company of McKinney.
John H. Holt (1912-) was born on the place
on which he and his wife now live. He is the
son of Killis Holt (1875-1959) and Mary Ellen
"Mollie" (Mallory) Holt (1878-1969) who
were married in 1899.
John H. Holt is the grandson of John
Henry Mallory (1847-1923) and Pennelope
(Hays) Mallory (1857-1938), who had
married in Hill County, Texas in 1872. John
H. Holt was the seventh of nine children born
to Killis and Mollie. His brothers and sisters
are: Raymond, Opal, Burl, Iris (deceased),
Faye, Berniece, Wilton and Jo Marie.
Killis Holt came to Texas from Alabama
with two sisters and a brother when he was
only a lad. His parents, Mathew and Sarah
Holt, were deceased.
Mollie (Mallory) Holt was born on this
place, as her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Henry Mallory, were the first family to settle
here. He grandfather, George Sims Mallory
(1808-1878), originally from Mississippi,
purchased this land around 1873.
John H. Holt, namesake of his grandfather,
John Henry Mallory, and a great grandson of
George Sims Mallory, is the fourth genera-
tion and present owner, with this land having
been in the family since around 1873.

HOLVERSON, JOSEPH MELVIN

Joseph Melvin Holverson was born August
29, 1927 in Baptist Sanitarium in Waco,
Texas. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Durie HolversonJoe and De Loris Holverson
of Clifton, he was reared in his parents' home
across the street from his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Holverson.
Joe graduated from Clifton Junior College.
He then served in the United States Navy
three years. After the end of World War II,
he resumed his education by receiving a
degree from Austin College in Sherman,
Texas. He then attended Presbyterian Sem-
inary two years in Austin, Texas.
After much soul searching, he decided not
to finish seminary. He moved to Tyler, Texas
with a position in the Tyler Bank and Trust
Company, where he is still employed. The
name of the bank has been changed to
Republic Bank Tyler.
He married De Loris Gary Nix June 10,
1961 who was a sixth grade teacher in Gary
Elementary School in Tyler. They are par-
ents of Joseph Gary who was born in Tyler
April 14, 1967.
After her son's birth, De Loris did not teach
for a number of years. She presently teaches
fourth grade in a private school in Tyler.
Gary, a junior in Robert E. Lee High
School, is a member of the school band. He
went with the band to Hawaii to perform on
December 16, 1983 at the Aloha Bowl in
Honolulu.
Mr. and Mrs. Holverson made the trip to
Hawaii for a winter vacation to see their son
perform with the school band.

HOLVERSON, JAMES DURIE

James Durie Holverson, son of Durie and
Ruth Holverson, was born March 9, 1921 in
Clifton in the home of his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Holverson. He lived his entire
life, until adulthood, in his parents' home
across the street from his grandparents.
After graduating from Clifton High School,
he graduated from Clifton Junior College,James Durie and Billie Wynne Holverson
where he was elected president of the student
body.
He was then a clerical employee of Cotton
Belt Railway in Tyler, Texas. In this position
he served in different departments such as
transportation, movement and location of
cars at specific times, and computer operator.
He met Billie Maxine Wynne who was also
an employee in the clerical department of
Cotton Belt Railway. They were married May
11, 1943.
Their son, John Wynne Holverson, was
born in Clifton at Goodall-Witcher Hospital
May 9, 1944. James was in the United States
Army Air Force during World War II at Big
Spring, Texas at the time of his son's birth.
James served in the Army three and a half
years. He then resumed his clerical position
with Cotton Belt Railway in Tyler.
After his mother died, he took a leave from
Cotton Belt. He, his wife and son moved to
Clifton temporarily to take care of his
grandmother, an invalid, who at that time
was residing with her son, Durie Holverson,
father of James.
After the death of Mrs. John Holverson,
Mr. and Mrs. James Holverson and son, John
Wynne, moved back to Tyler. James resumed
his clerical work with Cotton Belt Railway
where he continued to work until his retire-
ment.
Mrs. Holverson was employed as a
bookkeeper with Independent Oilman in
Tyler for fifteen years, after her son was
grown.
Their son, John Wynne, married Mavis
Dale Jordan Legg. She was the mother of four
children. Her husband had died previously.
The children are Laura Lynn, Robert Law-
rence, Jimmy Dale and Jodie Leigh. They
reside in Shreveport, Louisiana where John
is employed as Assistant Lab Supervisor with
Core Laboratories, Incorporated, an oil well
service company.

Durie Clinton Holverson, son of John and
Anna Holverson, born July 10, 1887 in
Clifton, graduated from Clifton High School.
He attended Nelson and Draughon Business
College in Fort Worth with the aid of a
scholarship which he received through the
Clifton Record after selling the most sub-
scriptions to the newspaper in a contest held
by the editor and publisher, Robert L.
Baldridge, Sr. His scholarship, dated Sep-
tember 14, 1905 was the thousandth scholar-
