Jones Drops
Third Round
In Nationals
Abilene Christian College's
Kendall "Ace" Jones top-notch
Texas conference tennis player
advanced to the third round in
the national intercollegiate net
meet where he was defeated
Monday by Russell Bobbitt
Georgia Tech 6-1 C-2.
The national meet held at
Haveford Pennsylvania drew
its entrants from the prelimin-
To qualify for the national
meet Jones advanced to the
quarter finals in ' the district
meet held in Austin May 1. At
the district meet Jones was de-
feated by Warren Christner
Texas who was in turn defeat-
ed in the national meet by
Frank Guerney Rice the .de-
fending champion.
Jones who -graduated this
spring has held the singles
crown in the Texas conference
for three years a hithertofore
unequalled feat as well as be-
ing for two yews an all-conference
guard on the basket-
ball team and state badminton
champion.
His trip to Pennsylvania was
sponsored partially by the "A"
club and the Athletic council.
Before returning to Abilene
Jones plans to attend the world
fair in New York.

ON DRAMAS
3 Productions Cast.
Rehearsals Begun
Comedy drama and fantasie
are represented in the program
which the Melpomean Players
will present this "summer.
Three one-act plays have been
casted and are' finishing their
first week's rehearsal under
the direction of Mrs. A. B. Mot
ris. They will be given before
the close of the first term.
Louie Welch and Selma Chap-
mond have leading roles in
"Darkness at the Window"
heaviest playof the program.
Other parts are played by La-
giniai Selman Hood Wilkins
Chesley McDonald and AliccV
leen Morlan.
"The Trysting Place" a com-
edy by Tarkington has in its
cast Duane Moser Betty Mer-
cey Edith Boyce Leon Hen-
thorn Jane Sellen Nolan C.
Hatcher and Ben Bailey.
Leads in the fantasie "On the
Lot" are played by Fairys Wd-
ker and Duane Moser. Ben Bai-
ley appears as" Props in this
playlet.
These jlays will be presenth
ed under the sponsorship of
Mrs. Morris' class in play production.
Audio-Visual Conference
"Best Yet" States Morlan
Alaskan Lecture
Here July 6
Edgar C. Raine will spend
"an evening in Alaska" with
students of Abilene Christian
College Thursday July G.
Beginning at 8:15 p. m. Mr.
Raine will give a travel talk on
Alaska and the northland. His
lecture will be illustrated with
150 views in color. There will
be no admission charge.
Raine has resided in the Ter-
ritory for the past thirty-three
years. For ten years as a rep-
resentative of the United States
Treasury Department he visit-
ed every town and village in
Alaska and many Siberian vil-
lages once a year. He packed
an outfit over Chilcoot Pass in
1897 during the Klondike gold
rush.
The "Inside Passage" term-
inating in the Lynn Canal;
snow-capped mountains glat-
ciers waterfalls seal reindeer
caribou and walrus herds; Es-
kimo igloos and Siberian Ma-
zinka houses; Totems and their
legends; Aleuts in native dress;
whaling scenes among the na!-

left Saturday morning for Okla-
homa City where he assumed
charge of the Abilene Christian
college quartet which is tout-
ing Texas Oklahoma and New
Mexico this summer to adver-
tise the school.

Close Sessions
Second annual audio-visual
ducntion conference sponsor-
ed by Abilene Christian college
closed Friday night June 23.
Dr. G. C. Morlam director said
"The conference was better at-
tended than last year and all
delegates seemed pleased with
the lectures pictures and panel
discussions offered."
Dean R. G. Boger of McMurry
college presided at the first ses-
sion Thursday evening at 8 in
Sewell auditorium. Dr. J. P.
Gibson ACC physician G. E.
Schauer captain of the safety
division of the state department
of public safety and M. L. H.
Baze superintendent of schools
in Brownfield spoke on the
program Thursday evening.
Theme of the session was the
teaching of safety by audio-vis-ual
aids.
Jackson is main speaker
Dr. Doyle Jackson professor
at Texas Tech was principal
Speaker at the session Thurst
day morning. He discussed ra-
dio as an aid to teaching.
Other speakers during the
morning were W. L. Dodson
Kilgore school superintendent
and Dr. W. W. Freeman East
Texas State Teachers college.
Panel discussions on subjects
related to audio-visual educa-
tion in elementary and secon-
dary schools were conduct-
ed by Betty Mercey of Fort
Worth public schools Willie
Floyd and W.. D. Gulledge of the
Abilene public schools system.
Demonstration of audio-vis
ual materials a- panel discus-
sion for college teachers and
a round table discussion on de-
veloping an effective audio-visual
program failed the after-
noon program.
Educational films shown
At the closing session Friday
night five sound films were
shown.
