AIST began its formation

"I knew it was a baseball
field" Deauchamp said "but 'I
never thought that I would have
my windshield shattered by
parking there."
At least three other wind
shields have been broken by
balls hit over the fence during
the past three years Deauchamp
said.
The maintenance department
according to Steve Green ACU
senior from Midland and presi-
dent of the organization.
Green said "ACU was
chosen as a meeting place this
Saturday simply because each
member agreed upon it. The
executive council consists of the
president vice president treas-
urer secretary and five repre-
sentatives from different regions
in Texas."
The goals of AIST this
year said Green "are to
put up a sign at the parking lot's
entrance last week which states
"Baseball field: Park at your
own risk."
"Although this is not a major
problem" Deauchamp said "it
is one that we should be
concerned with because it could
cause a student undue expense.
It is impossible for the school to
carry enough insurance to cover
this type of accident."
organize students to participate
In "Student Day at the Capitol"
to act as student lobbyists this
spring for the Tuition Equali-
zation Grant and to organize the
structure of AIST so that it will
operate smoothly to meet the
needs of all private colleges and
universities within the five
regions of Texas. This year AIST
is sending out a task force to
study the basic needs of the
private sector."
Last summer AIST
representatives attended a
directors' meeting of the Inde-
pendent Colleges and Univer-
sities of Texas (ICUT) in Dallas
" . mainly to let Jhem know
that we are an active indepen-
dent organization. AIST Is
autonomous from ICUT except
for AIST's function as a student
section of ICUT. An example
being AIST's involvement in
"Student's Day at the Capitol"
which is also a function of
JCUT" according to Green.
AIST represents 75000 to
80000 enrolled Texas private
colleges and universities.
