Thompson to attend
government conference
State Rep. Gary Thompson will at-
tend the conference of the Council of
State Governments Dec. 5-7 in
Lexington Ky. said Dr. Thomas
Olbricht dean of the College of Liberal
and Fine Arts.
Thompson chairman of the govern-
ment department also will participate
in the SOth anniversary of the council
he said.
Legislators and featured speakers at
the conference will examine public
policy at the state level Thompson
said.
The conference speakers will be:
Terry Sandford former governor of
North Carolina and I960 presidential
candidate who now serves as president
of Duke University George Gilder and
'Christmas at the Paramount'
to feature students faculty
Several ACU students former
students and one faculty member will
perform in the Abilene community
production "Christmas at the
Paramount" at 8 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the
Paramount Theater 352 Cypress.
The show has Christmas-related
numbers and a show-biz salute to
Christmas as a finale said Nelson
Coates senior advertising major from
Abilene and show parUdpant.
Coates said he is performing "Jingle
Bell Rock" a Christmas version of
"Lullaby of Broadway" and in all the
group numbers.

check (or money he knows is not in Ms

Hilton cited a specific example when
a student Was asked recently about a
bad check he had written to the
university. The student told him he
knew he did not have the funds to cover
the check but thought it was a way to
get cash said Hilton.
A student who writes a bad check for
a couple of dollars Hilton said ends up
paying the amount of the check plus
returned check charges from both ACU
and the student's bank. ACU charges
professors
professionals working in every area of
the field he said.
"Celebrating the Future" was the
theme of the symposium. The sym-
posium philosophy was built around a
"unite and move forward thrust" said
Pullara. '
This idea of moving forward is im-
portant because social work is often
frustrating and unrewarding in the
short run said Pullara.
The average person does not realize
how much Ume and energy a social

to do with my role In the legislature it

fifty states" said Thompson.
"It is always of great interest to me to
see what the others are interested in
especially in the areas of taxation and
educaUon"hesaid.

will perform with the choruses.
Former students Mary Lynn Tinncy
from Abilene and Greg Pittman from
Burkburnett also will perform.
Pittman will sing "New York New
York" and "We Need a LltUe Christ-
mas" said Dunn.
Tinney will sing "You'd Be Sur-
prised" and in a duet "Snookey
Gokems" said Tinney.
Coates said almost 100 people from
the Abilene community will perform in
the show
The show is sponsored by the Catclaw
chapter of the American Business
Women's Association.
Tickets are $7.59 J12.50 and $18. All
proceeds will go toward scholarships
for women seeking to further their
educaUon.

Students cleared of
felony drug charges f "
Felony charges of possession of
cocaine filed against two ACU students
were dismissed last week after
laboratory analysis proved the drug
was not cocaine said Mike Watson
assistant district attorney.
Both students were charged as a
result of a Nov. 2 arrest when agents of
the Special Services Bureau of the
Abilene Police Department executed a
search warrant at their residence.
Watson said the narcotics agents.
