Clinncc of Wmning Cowboys
Mnko Good Show Spite of Cold
Alter n olow Btarc which Coach Ens-
tcrday attributed 10 "lack- of fight"
during tho first halt tho Cowboys to
ubo tho words ot tho Coach "camo
back with tho old fight and played a
beautiful gamo" defeating tho. John
Tarlton A. & M. College by tho score
of 32-0.
The unquestioned features of tho
camo wero tho ground gaining ot Ta-
bor and Pay no; tho defensive work of
Clayton; ind tho work ot Montgomery
o' the visitors. In fplto ot the fact that
Coach Hayes had primed his lino
against tho attacks of Cranfill tho big
A. E. F. Btar was able to penetrate
their lino 34 times for n distanco of
GO yards and thrco touchdowns.
Thomas ut quarter should prooably
bo given the credit for tho best ro-
turn of a punt on tho local gridiron
this year. Catching tho ball oh the
lun bo slde-Btopped man after man
and vas downed oply after a 45 yard
run.
Tabor as usual led tlio team In the
number ot yards gained making 23
runs 'for a total of 198 yardB. His
broken field running seemed to be-
wilder tho Aggies; time and again he
inn through tho whole team at one
time making a cork-screw run ot 18
ynrdd thru their defense for a touch
down.
Payuo at right halt followed closely
on "Tutte'' total distanco making 183
yards In 27 runs.' Tho inability ot the
Tarlctonites to throw him after they
had caught him was responsible for
many of his gains. Payno also show-
ed pretty work In lino plunging mak-
ing his only touch down in this man-
ner at tho beginning ot tho second half.
For tho visitors Montgomery was
easily tho star. In the second quarter
ho caught a 28 yard pass and fell over
tho goal lino for tho.. visitors' only
scoro. Undoubtedly he made his pret-
tiest play when he stopped Tabor from
scoring in tho first quarter. .
Tho offensive work of tho Cowboy
back field can bo clearly seen upon
comparing the success ot tho two
teams in making first downs: Tarloton
making only 12 whilo Simmons made
28.
In tho overhead gamo tho visitors
had an edge on tho local team com-
pleting three passes for a total dis-
tance of 73 yardB whereas Eastorday's
eleven completed 7 for - gains ot 64
yards. SimmonB resorted to no long
passes and this accounts for tho small
average distance gained.
Tho game in detail follows: First
quarter. F. Hudspeth kicked to 10
yard llnjl. Payno returns tho ball 17
yards. First down Tabor around
right end lor 7 yards. Second dovn
Payno around loft end for 8 yards.
