MUSIC MINISTRIES
The Music Evangelism conference und Workshop is right around
the corner for Music MINISTRIES. The event is scheduled for Feb.
2 1 -22. It wil 1 feature Royce Dowel 1 State Music Department Baptist
General Convention Consultant as workshop leader.
The conference times and places are Friday 7 p.m. Room 208
Moody Center and Saturday 8:30 a.m. Room 208 Moody Center.
There is no registration fee. Everyone is invited to attend.
Those planning to attend Indiana are strongly urged to attend the
workshop.
EXTENTION
The Continental Singers a nationally-known touring group will
be holding tryouts Monday Feb. 17 in Moody Center.
Anyone interested is welcome to visit with Johnny Johnson the
talent director. He is particularly interested in vocalists and in-
strumentalists. Extension is now assigning teams to different area churches for
Christian Education Day which will be Sunday Feb. 16.
Extention is also assigning groups to entertain at many
Valentine's Day banquets. Anyone who needs entertainment for the
occasion should contact Gay Wingfiled at Ext. .'322.

Dr. Adrian Coleman a vice
president for development at
Hardin-Simmons University
since April 1 1974 has resigned
to become vice president of col-
lege advancement at Mary
Hardin-Baylor College in Bel-
ton. He will assume his new duties
February 1 and will move his
family to Belton in mid-
February. The Colemans live at
2133 Greenbriar.
At Mary Hardin-Baylor
which is a Baptist college Dr.
Coleman will be in charge of de-
velopment public relations and
alumni affairs.

Citations praising three Dis-
tinguished Alumni of Hardin-
Simmons were read in assembly
Thursday morning addding the
three to the list of 1 1 who previ-
ously had been singled out for
the Alumni Association's high-
est honor.
Miss Maye Bell Taylor a
longtime missionary to Brazil
now retired and living in Has-
kell was called "Our Miss
America" in a citation prepared
by Mrs. James Cassle an H-SU
trustee from Abilene.
Noting Miss Taylor's 35 years
of service with the Southern
Baptist Foreign Mission prog-
ram Mrs. Cassle said "We join
those from another America as
we honor you today as a reci-
Urbis Gives
Piano Recital
Sat. Feb. 8
The Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity School of Music will pre-
sent Richard Urbis in a Guest
Artist Recital this Saturday at 8
p.m. in Woodward-Dellis Recital
Hall.
Urbis is a senior at A&I Uni-
versity in Corpus Christi. He
concertizes regularly in that
area. He recently won the Del
Mar College Concerto competi-
tion. He will give a recital at
Juilliard in late March. The Dal-
las Symphony Orchestra pre-
miered his composition "Suite
for Chamber Orchestra" in the
1973 session.
On Saturday he will performn
the Beethoven "Appassionata"
Sonata the Liszt Hungarian
Rhapsody No. 11 the Barber
Sonata the Chopin F minor Bal-
lade and Ravel's "Jeau Deau."

Miss Taylor was born in Has-
kell the daughter of the late Dr.
and Mrs. L. F. Taylor and
graduated from Simmons Uni-
versity in 1929. She earned a
master's degree from Southern
Seminary in Louisville and
completed more graudate work
at the University of California.
The citation for Dr. Walter
Hi'nes Simes prepared by Dean
Jack Dean of the School of
Music declared that "the lives of
all here have been enriched by
the life and ministries of Dr. W.
Hines Simes."
The recipient is a 1928 Sim-
mons University graudate. He
played in the Cowboy Band
while a student and was
awarded an honorary degree in
1948.
He was 'head of the Church
Music Department of the South-
ern Baptist Sunday School
Board before his retirement a
few years ago. He now lives in
Florida.
The third recipient was Dr. W.
T. Reid a noted mathematician
now living in Norman Okla.
The citaton prepared by Dr.
Charles Robinson praised Dr.
Reid as one of H-US' top
mathematics graudate.
"His scholarly achievements
both as a teacher and a research
mathematician are of the high-
est order" the citation said.
Dr. Reid has taught at many
major universities and has held
the Phillips Chair in mathema-
tics at the Univeristy of Ok-
lahoma. Music for the assembly was by
the Cowboy Band. President
Elwin Skiles presided and
Charles Spicer an Abilene CPA
and president of the Alumni As-
sociation gave the welcome ad-
dress. A reception for the honorees
was held in Moddy Center fol-
lowing the program.
