Common sense encouraged for holiday season
With the traditional holiday sea-
son approaching Abilene and the
neighborhood adjacent to campus is
experiencing its yearly increase in
property crimes. Auto burglary theft
home burglaries and robbery have
seen a substantial increase within the
past three weeks.
By following common sense
guidelines and taking a few simple precau-
tions students and the university family can
substantially decrease their chances of fall-
ing victim to property crime offenses during
the Christmas season.
Do not leave gifts packages or other
valuables in open sight within your vehicle.
Secure these items in the trunk of your
vehicle or store in the closet of your home

areas such as shopping malls be obser-
vant of your surroundings. Report any

Do not walk with purses or hand-

struggle with a robber if they grab your
purse or wallet. The suspect may be
armed. Obtain a good physical and
clothing description and report the crime
to the appropriate police agency.
As always call university police at
