San Antonio Meeting
Six Hardin-Simmons University
students and sponsor Clyde T.
Jetton associate professor in
education attended the annual
state convention of the Texas
Student Education Association
March 10J12 in San Antonio.
Trinity University was host to
the 200 delegates who were
housed at the Hilton Hotel in
San Antonio.
Students attending from H-SU
were:
Luther Williams senior from
Lockney; Marlene Legg senior
from Hereford; Marlene Gililland
senior from Hereford; Sammie
McLallen senior from Brown-
field; Jimmy Day junior from
Houston; and Beverly Scott sen-
ior from Snyder. Dr. Clyde Jet-
ton was accompanied by his wife
and son.
iLuther Williams and Sammie
McLallen represented Hardin-
Simmons as Mr. and Miss SEA.
Luther was judged along with six
other finalists for Mr. SEA of
Texas.
Beverly Scott has served as
State TSEA parliamentarian this
year. Her election to this office
entitled H-SU to hold a state
TSEA office for three consecutive
years.
"Invest In a Child Make a
Man" was theme of the 1960 con-
vention. The first general ses-
sion began at 9 a. m. on Friday
March 11 following registration.
Jimmy Day served as workshop
Ministerial Alliance To
Meet
The Ministerial Alliance
will meet on Monday night
March 21 at 7 p. m. in the
Little Chapel when -Dr. Virtus
Evans and Dr. James Leon
Marsh both professors at
Southwestern Seminary will
be guest speakers.
Marsh is an associate pro-
fessor of religious education
at the Seminary while Gideon
is serving as associate profes-
sor of the New Testament.
Ministerial Alliance officers
will be elected at this meeting
also.
Carroll Smith Ministerial
Alliance president encouraged
all Ministerial' Alliance mem-
bers to buy their tickets for
the annual Ministerial Alli-
ance banquet which. will be
held on April 1 at Lavender's
Cafeteria. t
last week end. The meeting was
spokesman following the first
general session which was con-
cerned with a study of the TSEA
Constitution. Beverly Scott
chairman of the constitution com-
mittee brought three recom-
mendations for revision of the
constitution before the committee.
On Friday afternoon the group
was furnished with transporta-
tion by Trinity University to tour
the city of San Antonio.
The second general session was
highlighted with an address from
Dr. J. B. Bowden president

F. D. Fuller Resigns
H-SU Position For
Accounting Post
Frank D. Fuller assistant Hardin-Simmons
University business
manager for the past four years
has resigned to take an account-
ing position with the firm of
Thomason Enterprises.
Fuller's resignation prompted
by better business opportunities
and an advancement in position
was effective March 15. "Of all
the places I have worked this
has certainly been one with the
most pleasant environment" Ful-
ler said. "If you like people" he
continued "it is hard not to be
satisfied at Hardin-Simmons."
Thomason Enterprises built
and now operate the River Oaks
shopping district. The developers
have additional business holdings
in several West Texas cities.
In regard to Fuller's resigna-
tion Dr. Evan A. Reiff H-SU
president said "Mr. Fuller has
rendered invaluable service to
Hardin-Simmons. Because of the
opportunity for personal advance-
ment in his new position and be-
cause he will remain in our com-
munity contributing to the
growth of Abilene through one
of its most enterprising busi-
nesses Hardin-Simmons wishes
for Mr. Fuller the success to
which he is entitled."
According to Dr. Reiff a re-
placement for Fuller has not
yet been obtained. "The Uni-
versity is investigating some pos-
sible replacements but at this
time we are not in a position to
announce a successor" Dr. Reiff
said. .

Buck-a-Month
Pledges Due
Bob Agard stewardship
chairman for the Baptist Stu-
dent Union has announced
that various groups are can-
vassing the dormitories for the
Buck-anMonth" Club during
this week.
The "Buck-a-Month" Club
which was begun at the last
campus rally is for the pur-
pose of collecting money to aid
summer missions.
Bob urged each person who
pledged to please pay his dol-
lar for the month of March as
soon as possible. John Petry
BSU secretary is acting as
treasurer for the club.
Married students are also
eligible to join the "Buck-a-Month"
Club.

Summer
Three Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity students received appoint-
ments as summer missionaries
last week-end at the annual Mis-
sions Conference which was held
at the Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Ft.
Worth.
Those receiving appointments
were: John Robert Baker senior
student from Wichita Falls who
will be working in the Northwest;
Marvin Leech senior from Abi-
lene who will be sent to Hawaii;
H-SU to Host 31st
Annual Convention
The Southwestern Journalism
Congress has named two Hardin-
Simmons University members or-
ganization heads and has selected
H-SU as host school for the 1961
convention.
Robert H. Wilkerson assistant
professor in Journalism was
named 31st president of the
Southwestern Journalism Con-
gress last Saturday morning at
the annual convention which was
held at Baton Rouge La. March
10-12.
Tom Stevenson senior journal-
ism major was selected president
of the Southwestern Students'
Press Club which is an auxiliary
of the Congress.
Others who attended the Con-
gress include:

editor from Wichita Falls; Steve
Norman senior journalism major

student publications from Avoca;
and Mrs. Tom Stevenson a junior
business major.
Wilkerson has worked on sev-
eral Oklahoma newspapers and
has taught at Oklahoma A & M
and Eastern Oklahoma A & M
Colleges.
Stevenson is entertainment edi-
tor of the Brand and works as
photographer for the H-SU news
bureau.
Registration for the Congress
began on Thursday night March
10. Louisiana State University
acted as host school for the con-
vention. Thirteen Southwestern colleges
are members of the Journalism
Congress. Including Hardin-
Simmons and Louisiana State
Universities other member

ship at the University of Wyom-
ing. Hardin-Siirimons University re-
ceived a greater number of ap-
pointments than any other col-
lege. These three candidates were
chosen from a group of 37 ap-
plicants who represented four-
year state and Baptist colleges
all over Texas Twenty-two stu

The first general session which
was held on Friday morning was
highlighted by a speech entitled
"Freedom of Information: a Con-
stitutional Right" which was
given by Dr. Robert J. Steamer
LSU department of government.
A film was shown entitled
"Secrecy in Government" which
was centered around an inter-
view of Congressman John E.
Moss of California.
Of special interest was Richard
Mittauer a Public Information
Officer of the NASA who gave
a speech and demonstration on
"Publicity Problems of the Na-
tioinal Aeronautics & Space
Administration." Mittauer has
been on hand as each United
States outer-space missile has
been launched.
Justin Wilson senior member
of the Baton Rouge safety engi-
neers entertained the group at
the Friday night banquet telling
"Cajun" stories using the south-
ern French-Louisiana dialect.
New officers were introduced
at the Saturday morning session-
following a panel discussion en-
titled "How Secret Is Our Gov-
ernment?" Zollie Sfeakley Opens
Religious Focus Week
Religious Focus Week opened
Monday with Zollie Steakley
Texas Secretary of State speak-
ing. He told students that Christ-
ianity and democracy hold the
destiny of mankind in the deadly
struggle with world communism.
Richard Crawley L a m e s a
banker spoke Tuesday on "The
Cross and the Dollar Sign." R.
L. House attorney spoke at 7
p. m. Tuesday on "Things to
Keep for Successful Living.'
